Is one an old password? Have you changed passwords recently? How do you sync?

If you haven't synced, then there's no reason why the passwords should be the same.

If you changed passwords recently on one machine, then the old password will still be needed on the other machine until they have synced. After a sync, the old one will continue working until the first time you use the new one.

Remember that 1PW is a program, not a service. That is, you are not logging in to some server somewhere that contains your passwords. The passwords are stored locally on your machines unless you use a sync method such as Dropbox or iCloud.

  • Hello @adamgordon,

I hope danco's post shed some light on how 1Password works.

Now if you are syncing then Master Password changes should sync but we did have some bugs in this area in the past. Without knowing what version you're running on both your Mac and iOS device and if you're syncing though it's hard to say.

If you are running 1Password 5 or newer everywhere and you are syncing then what we would recommend is unlocking 1Password wherever it accepts the old Master Password, letting it sync and then lock 1Password. Now unlock using the new Master Password.

If that doesn't describe your situation could you tell us a bit more about your setup please
