I removed the 1Password Extension on Safari and reinstalled it. Upon reinstall, I've lost all logins

I was having trouble accessing the 1Password Safari extension; it would say connecting or syncing but never actually open the extension. I uninstalled the extension and then reinstalled. Upon reinstall, I only have 4 logins/passwords that appear when there should be more than 30. How can I get all of this lost info back? I have it on the app on my phone...

1Password Version: 1Password 5 Version 5.3.2 (532001) Agile Web Store
Extension Version: 4.4.3
OS Version: OSX 10.10.5

@philmiller99 Yikes! That's no fun. You reported that your sync type is iCloud, and if the items are still on your phone then they should be in iCloud. Have you checked the Mac app to see if your logins are in there? If they aren't, could you check to make sure sync is still enabled on both devices?

A quick way to get your passwords back would be to set up Dropbox or WiFi sync on your phone and pull everything back in to your Mac using those.

    Hi @philmiller99,

The 1Password browser extension for 1Password 4 and higher doesn't contain any of your data, so deleting & reinstalling that extension shouldn't cause you to lose anything. As penderworth asked, have you opened the main 1Password app to see if all your data is still there? It should be, but if the main app also shows only 4 Login items, is it possible you have another copy of 1Password installed on your Mac?

Also, you said you're using iCloud sync, but you also said you have 1Password version 5.3.2 installed on your Mac. That's the latest release of the AgileBits Store version of 1Password, which doesn't sync with iCloud. If you're sure you had been using iCloud sync, you might have both the AgileBits Store and Mac App Store versions of 1Password 5 installed at the same time (which might also explain the issue with the extension showing different data than you were expecting).

Normally, you should have 1Password installed in the Applications folder, so check there first. The AgileBits Store version would be named 1Password 5.app, and the Mac App Store version would be named 1Password.app. Do you see one or both of those?

In the applications I have several versions of 1Password, both the Mac Store version and the AB Store version. In the app that I'm running it's version 5.3 and says below it's from the Mac App Store. I was able to recover passwords with iCloud Sync. It looks like it's working but I am curious to know if I should switch to using the 1Password 5 app...?

    Hi @philmiller99,

In the applications I have several versions of 1Password, both the Mac Store version and the AB Store version.

That most likely explains both issues you originally described (i.e. the extension had trouble connecting, then only showed 4 items after uninstalling/reinstalling it). The Mac App Store and AgileBits Store versions of 1Password each keep a separate database on your Mac. From what you've told us, it sounds like one version had all your latest data, and the other version only had 4 of your Login items.

The 1Password browser extension works by connecting to 1Password mini, and each copy/version of the 1Password app has its own copy of 1Password mini. So I think the extension simply connecting to the wrong copy of 1Password mini, which only had those 4 Login items.

Is there a reason why you need to have different copies/versions of 1Password installed on your Mac at the same time? If not, you should keep a single 1Password app (either the Mac App Store or AgileBits Store version) and delete the others. It's really up to you which one you continue to use - the main difference is that only the Mac App Store version of 1Password can currently use iCloud sync. So if you want to continue using iCloud sync, you'll need to keep using the Mac App Store version (which is named 1Password.app, and the latest release is 5.3). Otherwise, you can choose to keep using the AgileBits Store version (which is named 1Password 5.app, and the latest release is 5.3.2).

When you decide which one to keep using, you'll also want to make sure you have all your latest data in that version (you can open each one to see which data it has). You said you were "able to recover passwords with iCloud Sync." Does that mean the Mac App Store version has all your most up-to-date information now? If so, and if you want to keep using the Mac App Store version please check out this knowledgebase article for help to remove the other 1Password apps.

Does that help? If you have questions or run into problems with that, please let us know.
