Are PDF files secure in 1password?

Hello,

Sometimes I create a secret note I add some pdf files as an attachment, this works perfect. When close 1password and perform a local search by spotlight for example it does detect my secured pdf files in 1password and I can even open them from spotlight. How can I prevent this from happening? I want those notes (and everything else) to be secured only inside 1password.

I'll hope someone can guide me with this one.

Best regards,
Ron Stijnen from the Netherlands

A lot of views no response?
Did I ask a very very stupid question? Or doesn't anybody bother when someone quick search your laptop and actually can take a look in the "hidden" files?

    I was just curious.....

In 1password for is is the option to enable spotlight search. Is there a same option in osx or doe I have to wait for 1password el captain update?

  • Hi @ron_stijnen,

I can't say who might have been viewing your query so far but it might be others curious to see if there was a reply. For us here at AgileBits we're working our way through a a bit of a backlog of questions but we do review and respond to every thread. So I apologise for any delay.

Now you haven't asked a daft question, the issue is the Preview and Quick Look will store cached copies elsewhere on disk and my understanding is sandboxing is a factor here on what can be done. One of our eagle-eyed users did spot this before so the devs have looked into it. Unfortunately my understanding is cleaning up after other services or applications is remarkably difficult. Of course it might be I'm misunderstanding your query and if I am please do correct me.

You also asked about the new Spotlight Search in 1Password 6 for iOS and whether we would see similar functionality coming to 1Password for Mac in after the release of El Capitan. At the moment we don't have anything planned, is it something you would find useful? I know we support third party integration by saving a particular file to disk that Alfred, Quicksilver and LaunchBar are known to use. As I'm not a user of one of these I happily just use 1Password mini. If you like I can create a request. At a guess such a feature would work like the others where the selection initiates open and fill and we pass a URL to OS X with a parameter detected by the extension. Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?

    Hi @littlebobbytables,

Thank you for your response !

I did not know how to delete this topic so I made a new one: Enable Spotlight search on OSX. Maybe you can read this one. I redifened my question and got all my answers.

    Best regards,
    Ron
