How to convert from 1Password from AgileBits web site to App store version?
Hello:
Been a long time 1Password user (both Mac and iOS devices). And have been patiently waiting for update which syncs via iCloud. I did not realize that there were two versions of 1Password. I purchased my copy and have updated via your website, before there was a Mac App store. How do I convert to the App store version? Is there a fee?
Thanks.

Same here. I've been using 1 password for over a year and when I bought it in your site, only later I realised that I don't have the appstore version. How can I get the appstore version without paying twice for the software?
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately developers can't just generate app store codes/licenses to give away for situations like this so the only way is to re-buy it. No app outside app store can use icloud directly, apple restrictions.

You may want to use iCloud sync for reasons that are important to you.
But from a purely technical point of view Dropbox sync, which is available in all version, is as good as iCloud sync, in fact slightly better. It is used by most AgileBits staff.

Hi @Rumbleripper and @Gustavs,
I'm sorry for any confusion about this! Dragon is correct: Apple doesn't provide a way to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version. So if you want the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you'll need to purchase that separately. If you purchased the AgileBits Store version within the last 30 days, we can certainly refund that - however, it sounds like you bought your licenses longer ago than that.
As you already know, iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. That's because it uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. We have more information here: Why does iCloud require iOS 8, OS X 10.10, and the Mac App Store?
Is there a reason why you would like to use iCloud sync instead of one of the sync options in the AgileBits Store version? As Danco mentioned, Dropbox sync is also a great sync option, and it's how many of us here sync our 1Password data. 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or iCloud. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of either to protect your data.
Dropbox also has the advantage that it can be used to share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers, whereas it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts. And it's the only single sync solution that works across all 1Password platforms: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
I hope that helps to clear up the confusion, but if you have more questions about that, please let us know! :)

Thanks @Drew_AG for the lengthy answer :)
I was under the impression that the new 1Password 6 version was also available for OSX, but it turns out it wasn't.
I actually prefer Dropbox sync over iCloud sync, so that wasn't the issue, I just thought that everyone on app-store gets a free major version upgrade, and that would be kind of unfair to the people who purchased your webstore version.
But luckily that is not the case! Thanks again for the clarification, the product is like no other!

Actually, @Gustavs, when a major release arrives that requires a payment to use, the AgileBits version is better. You'll get a generous discount for paid upgrades there. At the Mac App Store, the new version will be released as a new application, and existing users will then have to pay the same price as any new user would. Apple doesn't provide any way for developers to offer discounted upgrade pricing. This is a very big reason to stick with the AgileBits web store.

I personally am very disappointed by this. While I understand that Apple doesn't allow you to use iCloud syncing without the App store, there must be some other way to facilitate converting users who need it.
I am a very long-term and happy 1Password customer, I have gotten all of my extended family and friends to purchase the software, and I myself splurged and purchased the family, multiplatform (mac and PC) license and of course the Pro iOS license which is the most costly thing I could do.
I just started a new job where they block access to Dropbox :(
They don't block iCloud, and therefore I thought this would be the solution for me. Now I find out that I'd have to re-purchase the software on the App store to make this work?!I would think that you should be able to see the fact that I've purchased this already and if there really is no way to give us a "code" that allows us to allow for downloading from the App store, why not just reimburse us the cost of buying it on the App store? I'd even be fine with you keeping the portion that goes to Apple from the app store - not trying to be greedy, just want the full functionality.
I understand that this distinction between the two versions is spelled out clearly, but I had purchased the software and upgraded it forever since version 1 from you via your website, and only encountered this problem now with my new job, so I had no reason to know that this was a limitation.

@dmhs: There really isn't. :(
I understand. But we simply don't have access to the App Store, the same way Apple doesn't have access to purchase information from the AgileBits Store. They won't honour our licenses, and of course I can appreciate why they don't. Hopefully things will change in the future, but of course we cannot really influence Apple's policies. And until such time, the alternatives are Dropbox Sync or simply purchasing through Apple for iCloud Sync — preferably during a sale. I'm sorry I don't have better news for the time being.
