Trouble with upgrade on Mac from 1Password 3 to 5

I upgraded from 1Password 3 on a MBP running Yosemite 10.10.5 to 1Password 5 following the article on your website. When I launch 1Password 5 now, it opens up and ask for a master password. When I type the password it rejects it and does not open. I left 1Password 3 in my Trash folder and was able to move it back to the Application folder and it opens just fine. Please advise, I can stay with 1Password 3, but the browser extensions don't work with Firefox so I had to remove them.

Thanks

  • Hi @dkbrig,

When you launch 1Password 5 for the first time it realises it doesn't have a vault and looks in a select number of locations to see if it can find data from another version. Two of the places it checks are where 1Password 3 stores the Agile Keychain so normally the migration from 1Password 3 to 5 should be seamless. Of course if for any reason it finds two sets of data there is the potential for it to get confused.

Can you check something for us please. The path to the Agile Keychain that 1Password 3 read and writes to can be seen in the General tab of 1Password 3's preferences. If 1Password 5 found and used an Agile Keychain as a source it would have would set up synchronisation to this Agile Keychain. Despite the fact that you cannot unlock 1Password 5 if you open up 1Password 5's preferences and switch to the Sync tab you should see the path if it is set to Dropbox or Folder Sync. How do these two paths compare? if you're unsure at all, a screenshot or shots of the two preference windows will let us determine what has happened. Hopefully then we can figure this out and get you onto 1Password 5

    Hello,

I apologize for my delay at responding, but the install of 1Password that I am having issues with is on my laptop, which I don't use very often. Anyway, I see the issue, but am not sure how to go about fixing it. At this time, it might just be easier for me to stay with 1Password v3 on my laptop.

Anyway, in the General tab for 1Password 3, the Agile Keychain is in my Dropbox folder. However, in 1Password 5, it shows None, the wording exactly is "Sync Primary vault with None". The issue here is that it will not allow me to change it until I unlock 1Password, but I can't unlock it.

Is there is a default password when you first install 1Password 5, then I could unlock and change the keychain location.

    Thanks

Hello, no need to respond, I followed the procedure to completely remove 1Password from my laptop on your website. Then when I reinstalled v5, it asked me to sync up with my keychain. Apparently in some cases, the new version I guess gets confused by the old install.

    Thanks
