Im about to do a clean install on my macbook pro. Before doing this im backing up all my data.

Is there a way i can copy across the data file where all my passwords are saved and set them up again once i boot into the new clean installation ?

Also ill be moving from OSX 10.9.5 to 10.x would this cause any issues when importing the password file ?

As you've not mentioned that you sync your 1Password data to any other device I'm assuming, in giving this answer, that you don't do that.

This knowledge base article will help you find the data you need to restore from your backup to the clean install:

Where does 1Password store its data?

There's no reason why moving from OS X 10.9.5 to OS X 10.10 should give any problem with your 1Password data—although note that once you're on OS X 10.10 you'll be able to use 1Password 5 (which is a free upgrade from 1Password 4 and is designed specifically for use on OS X 10.10). Also consider that you may need to make a note of your Apple iCloud password before you do the reinstall so that you can enter it when setting up the reinstall.

  • Hi @vels,

I hope Stephen_C's post helped. If you copy the entire support folder from one Mac to another then when you launch 1Password it will simply use it and that even includes if you also move from 1Password 5 at the same time - both 1Password 4 and 5 use the same support folder and in the same location. So you could take the ~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/ folder from the old Mac, place it in the ~/Library/Application Support/ of the new Mac and 1Password 5 would simply use it.

Stephen_C's suggestion of your Apple ID password is a very good one if you need access to the Mac App Store or iCloud before you can access 1Password for any reason.

If you have any concerns before starting please let us know
