I"ve been using 1password for about a year now.
I purchased 1password pro.
I believe I payed, $9.99

Recently when I try to add a new login, the app does not allow me.
I get a pop up stating that I should buy now and the options are "buy license" or "buy 1password now".
I've already purchased it!

Also when I click on the icon on the top right hand corner of my mac, it states in red, "Trial expired. Click here to buy".

I recently erased and reinstalled all apps on my iphone and also updated to a newer O.S. on my Mac so maybe something went wrong there.
At this point, the app is not allowing me to add any more ID's!
What should I do ??

The first thing to make clear is that 1P for Mac and 1P for iOS are completely separate products. (There has never, to my knowledge, been a 1Password Pro for Mac, as opposed to for iOS). In other words, if you need 1P for Mac you have to buy it. The cost of it has nothing to do with whether or not you have 1P for iOS. It sounds from what you say that you've never bought a licence for your version of 1P for Mac.

1Password is licensed per person and per platform, rather than per device. You can read more about AgileBits' approach to software licensing in this knowledge base article.

You can buy 1P for Mac either from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits store. There are two things to bear in mind:

    1. If you ever want to use iCloud to sync 1P data between your Mac and iPhone you must buy 1P from the Mac App Store because the version from the AgileBits store doesn't support iCloud sync (following changes made by Apple on the launch of OS X Yosemite). Both versions support sync of 1P data by either local wifi or Dropbox.
    2. If you have owned an earlier version of 1P for Mac you may be entitled to an upgrade discount if you buy from the AgileBits store. That discount won't be available if you buy from the Mac App Store.

    Thank you Stephen.
Surprised (and disappointed) that I have to buy a "license" for individual products.
On your recommendation, I just purchased the 1P for Mac in the Mac App store.
    I believe it was $49.95

  • Hello @Clark7,

I'm glad Stephen_C was able to clarify matters and I'm sorry you were disappointed by our licensing policy. There's little that can be said to assuage the surprise but this is how AgileBits have licensed 1Password ever since I first became aware of their software (as a user). I think partly it's about the ordering that you discover it. I started from the Mac and as I considered it worth every penny there I didn't give the iOS purchase two thoughts. Going the other way is probably more of a surprise.

Well, I assume there is no other company that has produced an app like this because it's far more expensive then any other app i've purchased. Does it work great, definitely.

    Hi @Clark7,

I'm glad to hear 1Password has been working very well for you! Aside from the licensing issue, I really hope you're enjoying 1Password.

As for the price, it's true that 1Password is a premium product, and is priced as such. We hope that shows in the quality of the software and support we provide. One other thing I should point out is that, unlike some other password managers, 1Password is not a web-based service (i.e. we don't have your password data, it's entirely in your control) and therefore you aren't paying us any recurring subscription fees.

We really hope you'll find that 1Password is worth every penny! If you ever have questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to let us know - we're always happy to help! :)

It's great to see someone so exited about their product!

  • Hi @Clark7,

A number of us here were users long before we got to join the team, in fact excitement and passion about 1Password is one of the key requirements. It's genuinely the first time I ever got to say how much I'm a fan of what the company does :chuffed:
