I have 1Password5 for Mac and have a license key. How do I add this?

I reinstalled my system including 1Password and need to add the license key for operation. Can't find a way to do this through the app.

  • Hey @gilly562! Simply open the app, click 1Password 5 in the menu bar, and click License... You can also download your license file and double-click it to open it in 1Password.

Tried that. Clicked 'add license' and all it does is open my downloads folder. There is no other selection in the license window to add
my license. I entered my email address to resend my license and I got a reply that has my key for 1Password 3 but no link to activate this.
I can find no place to download my license file.

    Hi @gilly562,

Sorry for the confusion here. A license for 1Password 3 for Mac is not valid for version 4 or 5. This will be a paid upgrade.

If you'd like to continue using version 3 with the license you have, you're welcome to do so, and that license will never expire. You can download v3 from the Legacy section at the bottom of our Downloads page.

If you would like to go ahead with the upgrade, you can enter your v3 key for a terrific discount in our upgrade store, or you can purchase full-price from the Mac App Store if iCloud sync is important to you.

I hope this helps clarify the situation. Please do let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks! :)

I don't know why I was sent the license for 3. I have version 4 on one machine and version 5 was working
on my other machine until I reinstalled my system. So I must have done the upgrade already.

    Hi @gilly562,

1Password 4/5 for Mac is a paid upgrade from 1Password 3. I searched in our system for the email address from your forum account, and I only found a license for 1Password 3 for Mac that you bought from us back in January, 2010. I couldn't find a license for you for 1Password 4/5 for Mac. If you think you may have purchased an upgrade to version 4/5 from the AgileBits Store under a different email address, you can have that license resent to you from the "I've lost my license" section of this site.

Or is it possible you purchased 1Password 4/5 for Mac from the Mac App Store? We wouldn't have a record of that in our own system, but if you bought the Mac App Store version, you'll need to reinstall that from the Mac App Store. Just launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to make the purchase, and reinstall 1Password from the Purchased section.

You said you have 1Password 4 on another Mac. Please open 1Password 4 on that Mac and go to the menu for 1Password > License. Does that say you're using a trial, or does it show license information? If it says you're using a trial but the app has always been fully functional for you, that's likely due to a bug in 1Password 4 where, in certain cases, an unregistered/trial copy would not expire.

If you never upgraded your 1Password 3 license to a 1Password 4/5 license and would like to do so, you can enter your version 3 license code on this site to see your upgrade discount & options.

Of if you're sure you purchased an upgrade to version 4/5 at some point, we'll be happy to help you find that license. Just send us an email at support+licenses@agilebits.com in case we need any information (like an email address, receipt, etc) that shouldn't be posted on these public forums. Please also include a link to this forum discussion and your forum username so we can "connect the dots".

Hopefully this helps, but let us know if you have more questions! :)
