Can't Paste password into OS X Terminal

Hi There

I have a problem where I can't paste a password from 1password into the password field of terminal during a ssh login.

What are the specific steps I need to do to make this happen? I've created a very complex password, and typing it in isn't an option...

Thanks

RW

    Hi @romeowhiskey ,

I'm able to copy/paste my password from 1Password for Mac into Terminal. The ssh login typically masks the password. Is it possibly you have pasted successfully, but don't realize it? Try just hitting Enter after the paste.

  • @romeowhiskey Terminal does indeed handle things a bit more covertly than most apps, as @MrC mentioned. Pasting should work even if you don't see a change in the prompt. I just tested this with my own server.

FYI. This isn't a Terminal thing. It's a TTY mode thing where the TTY has been placed into a no-echo mode. All terminals / terminal emulators in UNIX / Linux / POSIX support this, and SSH (or any command line login program) has been coded to place the TTY into no-echo mode when a password is being entered.

  • @MrC Thanks for pointing that out. I'm always learning new stuff. ;) I appreciate the correction.
