the last 1password was dowloaded by a employee that is no longer with us, how do I uninstall?

I need to create a new 1password for myself on my company computer. A previous employee from over a year ago has already installed and set up a 1 password for herself, but now is no longer with the company. I do not have her old password anywhere to get into her account and uninstall on this computer. How do I go about creating a new 1password for myself on this computer?

First thing I would do is change my master password. I'd also be tempted to rotate all stored passwords too.

By the way, both are good security practices, regardless of your current situation.

  • Hi @AndreaPJMB,

I believe what you're looking for is our guide How do I start over with an empty vault? This will allow you to remove the 1Password user data present in this OS X user account and when you next launch 1Password it will ask you if you want to create a new vault. If I've misunderstood the request please let me know.

I don't believe changing your Master Password, that is if you have one, is necessary at all. All you've asked is to remove an old vault so nothing so far would suggest any existing Master Password of yours has been leaked somehow. While rotating passwords stored in 1Password isn't a bad idea (after all our own security audit helps you view passwords based on duration of usage), doing so because you've taken over a computer isn't one of the reasons that would call for it. Now any passwords that the previous employee had access to should have been changed when they left but that's up to the company really.

One thing that surprises me though, 1Password data is held only in a local user account so it seems they've reset the user account password and given you the previous employee's account rather than make a new one for you. I'm just a little surprised at that.
