Just upgraded to version 5.3 from version 3.8

Having mixed feelings about this upgrade.

I like the red Vulnerability Alert banner. Great idea!... HOWEVER.. Please add a feature to filter out everything else. It was a chore to check All of my accounts for vulnerabilities..

Since I was changing a lot of passwords, I was disappointed that the auto update feature did not work well. 9 times out of 10 I had to do the update manually. I don't recall having many problems with version 3.8. I can see I am going to have to help the rest of the family with their vulnerabilities fixes.

I have to say I do like the v3.8 user interface much better. The new GUI has everything white and bland and lacks the easy on the eyes coloring that I am used to. I prefer to see the web form details and password history on every page as a global setting and not a one account screen at a time button push. I would like to have the ability to double click to enter edit mode.

I've been using 1Password for years. Can't live without it. But am not happy with the new look and feel and performance failures.

It is amazing how hard it is to find locate the "change password" feature on many websites. Some sites bury the feature real deep. Pretty frustrating. I need to change my Agile Forums password next. I hope it is easy to find.

Mike

Found the filter for vulnerably alerts. It doesn't show up until WatchTower is turned on in preferences.

Hurray! The Agile Forums password change was very easy to find!

  • Hello @gweep,

You made me laugh with your update, I'm glad our password change page wasn't too bad to find  and I'm glad you found Watchtower too.

Now there is a bug we've addressed where the vulnerability banner is visible even if Watchtower is turned off. We've corrected that and it means the banner you discovered won't be visible until Watchtower is enabled. We are also addressing a few bugs around when 1Password asks to save something. Our beta extension might help with the password change pages and triggering 1Password into asking if you wish to update or not. There are still bugs to fix though and we know they need to be fixed.

As for the UI. It does seem to be a love/hate thing but each version is trying to keep itself in line with the latest version of OS X that it supports. You probably find other applications have the same look and feel. There is something in a consistent look and feel over multiple applications but Yosemite does seem to have divided people's opinion.

Now you mentioned double clicking to edit an item, I'm wondering, how do you feel about keyboard shortcuts? I ask as ⌘E takes you into edit mode and ⌘S will save the edits. I now use these so much I find myself trying to use them elsewhere and muttering when then don't work. Of course if you're not a keyboard shortcut fan that suggestion probably won't sound too enticing. I thought I'd throw it out there though.

Yes I do see that the new GUI tries to follow the latest version of OS X. I have to say that too often, Apple's cosmetic changes are simply that, just cosmetic and don't deserve the hype. John Ivy has a very soothing voice but clean and un-cluttered is not a feature unless it was cluttered in the first place. It wasn't.

I am still upset with Apple for killing the color icons in the finder window sidebar. Every time I get used to the color of the iTunes icon, Apple changes it. It is in my dock, in the same place as always, its just a different color again and I can't find it. I've been using Apple computers for 35 years. Recently, every new OS upgrade does something that makes it harder for my aging eyes to use. For example the scroll bars keep getting narrower and narrower and even disappear if you are not determined to keep them.

I key on color. iTunes used to be red. My external usb drives in the finder side bar were golden rod yellow. Now they are grey just like everything else.

By the way, although it was easy to change my password, for some reason my vault did not register the change, (I did it manually). Had to login with the old password. Back to that easy to find password change page. I'll get it right eventually...

Not all negative comments. I find that the GUI for iOS is visually very pleasing. The iPhone screen list display highlights the use of color icons to your advantage.

    Hi @gweep,

Thank you very much for your feedback, we really appreciate it! I know what you mean about cosmetic changes being made for the sake of making them (the iTunes icon being a good example). Personally, I don't mind the recent GUI changes Apple has made, although I can understand why some folks don't like them. I completely agree with you about the removal of color icons in the Finder window sidebar though - I always found it much easier to find what I was looking for there when the icons had color! :dizzy:

As far as updating 1Password to match GUI changes in OS X, it's tricky because no matter what we do, we aren't able to make everyone happy. Some folks like the visual changes made to OS X and want third party apps to match that, while others don't like the changes at all. I'm sure the visual differences in 1Password were quite jarring for you when jumping from version 3 to version 5! I remember being a bit surprised at the difference between versions 3 and 4, but I quickly got used to it - now when I look back at 1Password 3, it looks a bit outdated to me. I suppose it's largely a matter of perspective, though.

Thanks for your kind words about the GUI in 1Password 6 for iOS! I'm sure our iOS developers/designers will appreciate that. :)

If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to let us know.
