Upgrade Price and iCloud functionality
Hi,
I've been thinking of upgrading from V3 to V5. I can see the upgrade price on the agilebits site, but it says I need to buy direct from the App store to use the new iCloud functionality. Is there a system in place to match the upgrade price, as on the App store it's £40 and as an upgrade its $25.
Many thanks,
Tom

Since Apple does not provide developers any way to transfer a license to the Mac App Store or to provide discounted pricing to existing licensees, your only choice to get a license from Apple will be to pay the full price, same as any other user. There are sales from time to time; you may want to wait for one of those. I have no insider information about when the next sale might come, and I know from experience around here that AgileBits won't announce them in advance either. They do post notice of them on Facebook and Twitter.

Hi @theTree,
Hawkmoth is correct: Apple doesn't give us the ability to do upgrade pricing on the Mac App Store, so you would need to buy 1Password 5 for Mac at the full price shown there.
As you already know, we're able to give you an upgrade discount for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. That version has Dropbox sync, which is also a great option. It's how many of us here sync our 1Password data. 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or iCloud. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of either to protect your data.
Dropbox also has the advantage that it can be used to share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers, whereas it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts. And it's the only single sync solution that works across all 1Password platforms: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
I hope that helps, but if you need anything else, please let us know. We're here for you! :)

It is a bit of a bummer that you need to choose between iCloud Sync and a better deal, maybe one day people won't have to. Dropbox has served a number of people very well @theTree so I hope it will for you too

@littlebobbytables: just upgraded and stuck with Dropbox; it's worked well for me for years! I saw the sales text written for the iCloud updates for V5 and got excited about it... though it actually makes no difference really to me really :P
