Hi @DuddleyDuddley,
Your locally stored vault is completely encrypted. The situation with the sync data is a little more complex. Our older sync container, Agile Keychain, does store the title and URL of items in an unencrypted form but this was a deliberate design decision at the time and it only pertains to those two pieces of information - everything else is encrypted. With the newer sync container format OPVault even this data is encrypted making OPVault more like the encrypted SQLite database file 1Password for Mac uses locally. No matter what though the note field of any item is encrypted.
I do want to ask though, you say you're syncing via iCloud but that you're running 1Password 5.3.2. Now the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 lost the ability to sync via iCloud due to certain restrictions being enforced with iCloud Drive. Basically only application obtained via one of Apple's stores are allowed to access any iCloud related frameworks. Are you sure 1Password sync is currently enabled and working for you?
