I would like to have my password vault on my iPhone also
Hi there, I am limited in computer and tech knowledge and I need some help here. I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro running OS X version 10.8.5 and I have 1 Password version 3.8.22. and Safari ext version 3.9.20. I purchased a iPhone 6s plus and downloaded the 1 password app from I tunes.
I could not get them to work together, nor did I see a sync option when I searched for an answer. I managed to download 1 Password version 4 and the extensions for Safari and then my 1 password was not working. I deleted that and re installed the older extensions and now can use 1 Password again.
Do I need to upgrade my operating system to use a newer version of 1 Password to sync w/ my iPhone?
I am afraid if I upgrade OS X my computer will run even slower than it already does. I just want the passwords to work on my I phone.
I do not really know or use the dropbox it mentions, I cloud, or other options but could learn I guess.
Any help for this simpleton of electronics would be fantastic
Thanks, Brian
1Password Version: 3.8.22
Extension Version: 3.9.20
OS Version: OS X 10.8.5

Newer versions of the OS should work fine on your Macbook Pro, and then you can upgrade 1PW. It is possible that your machine is short on memory, and that it would benefit from an upgrade. Though that's not really a 1PW issue, I am sure we can discuss this if you want.

Thanks, I do have 8g of memory that I upgraded when I bought the computer. I will have to think about the OS X upgrade. This computer had Snow leopard and when Loin came out a few months later i upgraded, "Boom" my computer was noticeably slower from then on.
If I do upgrade to the newest version of OS X, do I need to buy an updated version of 1PW? or does my license allow me to move up?Thanks

Well I going to do the upgrade as It does not seem I have a choice if I want to use this phone and other devices to their potential. Hope it still runs decent, or I guess I upgrade my computer sooner than later.

I believe Lion was one of the poorer versions of OS X, and later versions are better.
1PW 3.8.22 worked, with some limitations, as far as OS 10.10. 10.11 (El Capitan) is very new, so there could be problems we don't know of yet.
You can upgrade to 1PW5 (the latest) at a discounted price from AgileBits, or you can pay full price at the Mac App Store (Apple don't allow discounts). The only advantage of buying from the App Store is that it permits iCloud sync (which Apple do not allow on apps bought outside their store). But even if you want to sync to some cloud service, all versions allow Dropbox sync, which many people (including AgileBits staff) prefer to iCloud.

Seems to work so far, however I will need to figure out what dropbox is and look to see how much Apple wants to R**e me for 1PW. I will get ver 5 one way or another. Just wondering how I delete y old version w/o loosing all my passwords

I now have both versions on my computer and both extensions on safari. I am not sure what to do next? The passwords seem to all be in the new version, but what will happen when I delete the old extensions and how do I get rid of the old version? Will it just use the same vault code, it works now for both?

Hello @bnliv2ski,
I'd like to suggest a small test. I would like you to visit a site, the actual site doesn't matter, all we care is that it has a Login page. I like Amazon for my testing for example. I would then like you to create a new Login item using the old extension - purely for testing so the details you type in don't have to be real. If the old extension is still synchronising to 1Password 3 (as it should be) then you will see this new test item appear in your 1Password 3 vault. I also believe you will see it appear in your vault in 1Password 5 too.
If I'm correct about all of that then you are now assuredly safe that you can remove the old version. Now you were running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) but it seems like you've pushed forward and updated OS X, at a guess to El Capitan? Now we do have a guide that will show you how to remove 1Password 3 from your system. This guide can be found at Completely Uninstalling 1Password 3 for Mac and while there is an uninstaller you can download I don't believe it has been tested with El Capitan yet. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to make the move yet myself so I'm still running Yosemite and I can't say if it will work there or not. You might be best simply moving the old 1Password application from your
/Applications/
folder to your Trash and then uninstalling the old 1Password 3 Safari Extension by launching Safari and entering Safari's preferences. In there you would switch to the Extensions tab, select the old 1Password Extension and click on the Uninstall button. There are other parts of 1Password 3 but they won't interfere. Now 1Password 5 has actually imported your vault from 1Password 3 and copied everything into the new vault that we use. At the same time though it did set up syncing to the old Agile Keychain which is stored on your hard drive. This will be worth noting later depending on the answer to the following question.
Now at a guess is the next task to get 1Password for Mac and 1Password for iOS talking or have you already done that?

Hi littlebobbytables, thanks for your reply. My computer power cable just barfed on me so unfortunately I need to hold on till tomorrow night as I ordered a new one, to look into the options you sent me.
I do have the new OS X installed. I bought the 1PW 5 from the apple app store and had downloaded it. I had both on my mac. I took the old one and put it in the trash. For the extensions I just unchecked the old one but its still there. Not sure if this huts anything but I seem to be able to get passwords and generate them in my new 1 PW version. I also have it on my phone and it works w/ touch ID. Not sure how to use it on the phone though as I seem to have to go into 1PW app manually and find the login I need. Much easier on the mac, but I guess its better to be able to look it up then not have it with me at all.
I did try downloading the removal uninstaller but apple won't let me use it (security) not sure how to allow it.
Anyway it seems to work, do I need to try and remove anything else or does putting the icon in the trash work?

Hello @bnliv2ski,
iOS is a very different beast from OS X so yes, 1Password does behave differently on the iPhone and iPad although thanks to features such as iOS extensions (new in iOS 8) 1Password for iOS has never been closer to the Mac version. For me the iOS 1Password Safari Extension was a massive shift in functionality - I love it. If you haven't seen the page Fill items in Safari you may find it a more efficient way of using your Login items.
The two key parts were moving the old 1Password 3 application to the trash and if you have the old 1Password 3 Safari Extension disabled that's fine - it can't interfere if it isn't being loaded when you launch Safari.
Don't worry if the uninstaller won't run. It will be OS X trying to keep you safe and that's fine under normal circumstances. Nothing bad will happen if you don't run the uninstaller. If you remove the application and don't have the old extension active in your browser you're good
