El Capitan, Clean Install, 1Password

I will be performing a clean install of El Capitan. In looking through the Support Forum there are many people with mostly different questions involving El Capitan post install problems.
Do you have or will you have step by step instructions to get 1Password working again after the clean install wipes everything. You folks are great at this and have used many of your easy to follow steps to solve many situations.
1Password, for me, is the most important app on my Mac - so I need to get it running very quickly after the clean install.
Thanks, Dr.JDS

  • Hey @shawjd1! There has only been one noticeable issue with El Capitan, and it's outlined in this post. I personally did not have that issue when I upgraded to El Capitan, and it's a rather intermittent thing. Since you reported in your post that you're running the beta of 1Password, you're definitely using the AgileBits Store version, which means that this issue may apply to you. If you do have any trouble, simply follow the steps in that post.

Let us know if you have any questions at all and we'll help get things sorted out. :)

Ok penderworth, thanks for the rapid response but I need to drill down a little further: I finish the clean install then re-install 1Password 5 Ver 5.4.BETA-42. My Primary Vault exists in Dropbox in a folder named "Shared with Annie”. The path to the vault actually has the Dropbox ultimately on my C: drive in a folder named, you guessed it, Shared with Annie.
So what do I have to do to get the vault image back onto my MacBook Pro? OR am I trying to make this too difficult when it’s really quite simple.
    Thank you, Dr. JDS

Looks like you guys are getting overwhelmed with new requests for help.

Is it possible for someone to take a peek at my situation - I think its a fairly easy. I’ll try not to pester you.
    Thanks, Dr.JDS

    Greetings @shawjd1,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm a little confused by your post. The concept of a C: drive is very much a Windows thing so on a Mac should have no meaning.

On a new Mac or a fresh installation all you should need to do is download 1Password and place it in your /Applications/ folder and install the Dropbox service. After it's finished syncing you point the new copy of 1Password to your existing Agile Keychain. All of this is covered in more detail on our page Sync existing Dropbox data.

    Does that help at all?

Thanks littlebobbytables, yes your explanation confirms my understanding of the process.

(I had been working on a Dell Windows computer and that, I guess, is where the C: thing came from.)

Once again you guys and gals awesomeness comes to the rescue. I’ll let you know if I run into any weirdness after the clean install and subsequent re-loading of 1Password5 Beta.
    Best, Dr.JDS

I sure hope that the good doctor has a better time than I have had.

I followed the instructions. Deleted every single bit of Dropbox. No extensions, processes or even files (even for other applications!). Also deleted everything related to 1Password.

    According to instructions above:

    • download 1Password and put into application folder: DONE
    • install the Dropbox service: DONE
    • Sync Dropbox: DONE
    • point 1Password to existing keychain: PROBLEM

Upon opening, 1Password required a Master Password.

I noticed all the words I see when getting 1Password -made simple, beautiful snowflakes, glimpse into the future, really amazing, lovingly crafted.

I have a lot of other words.

    Good bye.

Hey LarryP2003, your last words sound as though your throwing in the towel. I would ask that you hang in there and communicate your challenges to the 1P Cust Srvs Staff. They have helped me through some really complex problems, mostly caused by me but this staff is the best at working with you until everything is up and running to your satisfaction.

Also, where do you find customer service 24/7, in the US, with very fast responses to your questions.

Hang in there LarryP2003 - 1P support is bar none the best.
    All the best: Dr.JDS

Thank you for your kind words @shawjd1 I do hope we can win @LarryP2003 around too  I'm also happy to hear everything is working for you

@LarryP2003: We're here and willing to help.

So everything seemed to be be going well. When you say you pointed 1Password to existing Agile Keychain do the steps on this page, Sync existing Dropbox data look familiar?

The other question I have is if 1Password is asking for a Master Password that's a good thing isn't it? It would suggest it has a vault as otherwise it would ask you if you want to create a new vault or use an existing one. Is the problem that your Master Password doesn't seem to be working?

The more detail you can supply the better we will understand and hopefully the faster we can help get things working

@shawjd1 Thanks for the encouragement and while I understand the scarcity of great support I didn't give them the benefit of answering a question I could have asked. Your question seems to captured my issue. I spoke out of total frustration which never gets anyone anywhere, but at least I deleted a bunch before posting!!

@littlebobbytables, thank for the offer of help but Brenty set up a separate thread called '1Password Dropbox Setup' (though I m not sure why).

  • @LarryP2003 The public forum is a great place for fellow users to chat with each other and for our team to give you a hand when you need it. You can always feel free to pop back in here when you have a question, or just want to say hi. :+1:
