Hi,

As it seams I have bought the "wrong version" from your website. I bought 1Password from your website February 20, 2015 for $49,99. Its not working with iCloud sync and now my friend are telling me i bought the wrong version and I should have bought it from App Store.

Now I see that you have this text "*required for iCloud sync or buy it here:" I see myself as a very advanced user so if I have missed this there must be a lot who has done the same. Im not going to buy the "right version" from App Store for $49,99 so how can this be fixed?

Best Regards

Poiu

    AgileBits will refund purchases of the AgileBits store version made within the past 30 days but I'm afraid you're well outside that time limit. However, there is nothing inherently "wrong" with the AgileBits store version. It supports sync by either Dropbox or wifi. Dropbox sync has certain advantages, in any event, over iCloud:

    1. you can sync individual secondary vaults (which iCloud can't do);
    2. it works cross-platform.

    Many of the AgileBits staff use Dropbox to sync. Personally, I use wifi and that works perfectly for my needs.

    I used Lastpass.com before but my friend told me to start using 1Password instead and I havent really started using it until 1 week ago. It seams like Im already starting to regret my decision. I can buy the App Store version first and show you the receipe and then you can refund me. Im pretty sure AgileBits can help me out here. Anyway that is what I would do if it was my company. Keep the customers happy!

    We community moderators do not work for AgileBits, so none of us could grant your request if we wanted to. You can wait for an AgileBits employee come along and confirm what @Stephen_C has told you, though. He's almost never wrong. And he isn't in this case. There is lots of information explaining how it came to this here.

    The reference given by @hawkmoth explains the technical reasons for the change.

    As to the financial reasons for not doing as @Polu suggests, I am told that the credit card companies get very upset if there are a large number of refunds and may cut off a merchant who tries to give them. The thirty-day refund period ought to be enough, though I do see that some people will buy 1PW for Mac before having another device they want to sync with.

    I wish AgileBits would modify their web site (and, perhaps, the download itself) to make it harder for people to miss the fact that the direct version does not have iCloud sync. But some people would manage to miss the info no matter how clearly it was presented. I can only assume that this has not been done because they are still working out exactly how the web pages should be changed; in my view it would be better to do something now rather than wait to get the design perfect.

    Hi @Poiu,

    I'm very sorry for the confusion! iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac because it uses Apple's CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the AgileBits Store version of 1Password as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. The knowledgebase article from the link in hawkmoth's message explains more about that.

    Unfortunately Apple doesn't currently provide a way to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version. We can refund purchases made from the AgileBits Store within 30 days, but since it has been over 7 months, it's no longer possible to do that. So at this point, if you want the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you'll need to purchase that separately.

    However, I'd like to reiterate what Stephen mentioned, which is that Dropbox sync is also a great option. It's how many of us here sync our 1Password data. 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or iCloud. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of either to protect your data.

    Dropbox also has the advantage that it can be used to sync secondary vaults, as well as share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers (it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts). And Dropbox is the only single sync solution that works across all 1Password platforms: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.

    If you have more questions about that, please let us know! :)
