Recover a vault from a CCC backup image.

Before upgrading my mac from 10.10 to 10.11 I made a full backup image of the boot drive using CCC. But after reinstalling the system I have found that my notes with the passwords to two of my shared vaults are not in the vaults. My method was to put the vault password in the vault itself so that If I lose contact with the vault on one device I can use another to get back in. These two vaults are missing that key password. I do still have my full CCC backup of my system before this fiasco started. It there a way to get access back to those vaults from the backup and get them working again in my new machine?

    Hello @ErlicTheMad,

As you're running 5.3 that indicates to me that you're a Mac App Store customer. So the path that you will want to visit on the backup will be ~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/. Here is what I would recommend.

    1. Launch 1Password and quit it using the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌘Q. This will ensure 1Password mini isn't running.
    2. Copy that folder from the clone backup (very sensible move by the way, a full clone before a big upgrade is what I will always recommend too) to correct place on your drive. If you're concerned at all make a copy of the existing folder for safety.

When you next launch 1Password you should find it is exactly as you left it when you were running Yosemite. Hopefully this resolves your issue but please do keep us updated.

That worked perfectly :) . I was able to recover the vaults and get things going again. Saved by the backup. much better than sad by the loss.

That's great news, I'm glad the steps from littlebobbytables helped you out with that! Backups do seem to save the day more often than not. ;)
