Hi @AlistairM,
It sounds like your situation is a bit different than the one in the previous discussion, so I've moved your message to a new thread. I hope you don't mind!
To make sure I understand - you had been using 1Password on your Mac, then had that Mac erased, and now you don't know how to get your 1Password data back again. Is that correct? If so, the first thing to explain is that 1Password never sends your password data to us - by default, all your 1Password data is stored locally on your Mac. You can choose to sync an encrypted copy of your data (using an option like iCloud, Dropbox, or Wi-Fi sync), which can be used to sync with other devices that have 1Password installed. Or if you have a backup of your Mac (like a Time Machine backup, for example), your 1Password data should be saved there as well.
So, if you had synced your 1Password data to Dropbox, iCloud, and/or another device, or if you have a backup of your Mac from before you erased it, you should definitely be able to get your 1Password data back again. The first thing you would want to do is reinstall the 1Password app on your Mac. If you bought a 1Password license from our AgileBits Store, you can download 1Password from our download site. If you bought it from the Mac App Store, you'll need to launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy 1Password, and download/install it from the Purchased section.
When you open the 1Password app for the first time, you'll be able to choose where your 1Password data is located by following the steps in this section of our user guide.
Does that help? If you have trouble with that, please let us know. We're here for you!

Thank you Drew, The issue is I had been using 1password for over a year now and yesterday I had issues with installing El Capitan on my mac. Then my hard disk was erased so every 'local' trace of it is gone. I reinstalled 1 password on my computer now but I don't know how to access 1password anymore. To make it worse I did not do a backup. All i know is my main password. I tried logging in with my dropbox accounts but no success.

Hi @AlistairM,
Thanks for that extra bit of explanation. Sorry you're dealing with this; that definitely sounds like an annoying situation. Hopefully we can help.
You haven't mentioned yet whether you actually synced your data to Dropbox or to another computer or device at any point. Did you?
I tried logging in with my dropbox accounts but no success.
I'm interested to know what "no success" means in this context. Were you unable to login to Dropbox? Or were you able to login but unable to find a 1Password.agilekeychain sync file in your Dropbox account? Or something different?

Thank you all for your wonderful feedback! I just realised I had it backed up in one of my old hard disk. See, No Success meant that I logged in to my dropbox accounts and there was no link. Is it possible to link it to my dropbox?

Hi @AlistairM,
I logged in to my dropbox accounts and there was no link. Is it possible to link it to my dropbox?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "link". Are you asking how to set up Dropbox sync in 1Password? Normally, if you've been using 1Password and want to start syncing your vault to Dropbox, you would follow the steps here: Sync with Dropbox
Before your hard drive was erased, had you been syncing your 1Password vault with Dropbox? If so, your 1Password data should still be in Dropbox, and therefore you should be able to sync it from Dropbox back to 1Password on your Mac. You can find steps to do that in this section of the User Guide.
However, if you hadn't previously been using Dropbox sync in 1Password, you won't have any of your 1Password data in Dropbox.
I just realised I had it backed up in one of my old hard disk.
That sounds promising, but can you please elaborate on what is backed up on the old hard disk? Do you mean you have a backup of your entire Mac? Or a backup of certain files? What did you use to create that backup (for example, Time Machine)? If your backup on the old hard disk contains your 1Password data, we can help you restore that. Thanks!
