I have 1 password up and running now, but I may need some advice further on. I reinstalled from the Apple AppStore and it works. I have bought 1password at least twice, but maybe thrice, I have to check. The first copy was from AgileBits, the second and possibly the third one were bought from the AppStore. I remember buying one on the AppStore for my wife. Did I buy another one from the AppStore for me or am I imagining things. I have to check. Am I in trouble if my wife and I are using the same desktop app ?

Hi @marcf,
I can confirm that you have at least a 1Password 3 licence that you obtained via us. That will be the first copy. If further purchases were made via Apple's Mac App Store then we can't be quite as confident as we do not have access to any information on who has purchased 1Password for Mac (Mac App Store). When you purchase from the Mac App Store the purchase is tied to your Apple ID so if you and your wife normally use separate Apple IDs it would be possible to first purchase for your wife and then again under your own Apple ID. Now there is a way where you could share Mac App Store purchases using Apple's Family Sharing but whether you could get one of your purchases refunded will be very much up to Apple's discretion as we have no control there at all.
As to the other part of your question. As long as you and your wife use separate user accounts in OS X you'll be fine. All that matters is the separate accounts as 1Password stores your vault in your Library. With separate user accounts you each have your own Library folder and so there is no risk. In terms of the application, I just want to say that if you share a single Mac then you would only need one copy of 1Password for Mac. It would have been well within the terms and conditions for your wife to purchase 1Password for Mac and you as a secondary user of the Mac to benefit from that purchase without making your own.
I feel you may well have follow up questions so please do ask

It seems we have three copies. I checked on one of my wife's computers and it looks like we puchased 1Password with her Apple ID on the AppStore. It's weird not remembering more precisely, but I know that I wanted her to have it home, in her office and iPad (with the appropriate IOS version). All is well on her side.
Why do I have two copies for myself, one with AgileBits and one with the AppStore is a mystery I should more ask about my doctor than here. I remember being vaguely annoyed by the fact that I couldn't synchronise through iCloud with the AgileBits copy. I asked you guys about that then. That made the 1Password sync dependent on Dropbox (or any other service of that type except iCloud) which is alright but probably didn't reassure some obscure OC part of me.
But again, everything is up and running, so I'll leave it at that. I won't ask for a refund to Apple as we bought and used the software, and are statisfied with it. It works well and offers a much better user experience than Keychain.
Maybe my daughter should have my AgileBits copy. Is the license transferable?
Thanks for the help!

Hi @marcf,
The licenses you have from us are both for 1Password 3, and I'm guessing that the version you've bought from the Mac App Store is version 5, which was a paid upgrade anyway, so don't beat yourself up too much about paying separately for v5.
Licenses are not transferrable, but can be shared with up to 5 other family members in your household. But if you wanted to share one with your daughter, I'd expect you'd be better off using Apple's Family Sharing (as littlebobbytables mentioned) to share the Mac App Store purchase, if it's for version 5.
