El Capitan install; 1Password not opening

I installed El Capitan (10.11) and 1Password will not open (need to force quit). I have the Agilebits version 5 of 1Password and just downloaded the latest non-beta version. I have read the discussion and did have the "quarantine" issue and entered the fix for that in terminal, rebooted and 1Password still doesn't work. I made sure I only have 1 new downloaded copy of 1Password in my Applications folder and did not use a "cleaner" app to remove the old version of 1Password ( I just dragged it to Trash). I only sync to my hard drive. What do I try next?

I read further in your suggestions in the diagnostic report software and repaired permissions and attributes and removed a copy of 1Password in my Downloads folder. One or all of these moves fixed things and 1Password is now working properly.

@thachtor It's great to hear that 1Password is now working fine for you. Please give us a shout back if something else comes up.

I installed Mac OSX El Capitan and can not edit or open 1Password. I have version 3.8.15. I tried to update 1Password and get an error message: "Error occurred while extracting the archive." 1Password is in the applications folder. I ran the disc utility on the Mac and had it look for repairs, (This is now quite a different interface than in previous versions). Nothing in my downloads folder. Didn't help. I don't see where to read the suggestions you gave thactor. Thanks!!

Sorry! I figured it out. I downloaded the newest version of 1Password. It all works now.

    Greetings @RoseY,

We last worked on 1Password 3 for Mac when Mountain Lion was king of the pride and as you've discovered, 1Password 3 isn't as happy with El Capitan. You should find 1Password 5 works a lot better for you in this case. Just to ensure you're aware (you may very well be) but 1Password 4/5 are a paid upgrade over 1Password 3. That is why 1Password 5 will ask for a licence file and not a licence key as you have for 1Password 3. If this is something you would like information on please do let us know.
