I've overpaid because of all this confusion
My 'Trial' had ended, so said the icon, but I've bought iPassword several times.
I upgraded nonetheless for my family pack that doesn't seem to exist anymore, paid $24.99.
That app crashed every time I opened it.
Bought the app (again) from Mac's App store ($49?).
That works fine but I ended up paying around $75 because Agilebits has absolutely no way to contact them directly.
That is horrible support.
How do I get reimbursed?

Hi @pierce500,
I'm very sorry you had trouble with the 1Password app, and for any confusion about purchasing a license! I'm sure we can help you out with all that.

this seems to be a faceless place - how do i contact a person for help?Actually, you've already contacted us directly by posting in these forums! We are all people here, and we're always happy to help. And hopefully you can see that we're not faceless at all - you should see my picture right next to this message. ;)

If you were seeing a Trial Expired message, that means you were using the AgileBits Store version of 1Password for Mac (available from our download site), which is in trial mode unless/until you activate it with a license. We have information about that here: "Trial Expired" notice (Mac)

We simplified the way our licenses work about a year ago. Instead of offering separate "Single User" and "Family" licenses, we now offer a "Single license" which can be shared by up to six family members living in the same household. So, the license you purchased works just like a family license, but it only costs as much as a single user license used to (and it sounds like you used your upgrade discount for that).
That app crashed every time I opened it.
I'm not sure why that would have been happening, but it wasn't related to your license (i.e. regardless of whether you've purchase a license and/or activated the 1Password app with that license, 1Password shouldn't crash). We would of course be happy to help you with that, although it sounds like that's no longer necessary:

Apple doesn't currently provide a way to convert a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version. Therefore, the Mac App Store version of 1Password is a separate purchase. Also, Apple does not give us the ability to do upgrade pricing on the App Store, which is why you paid full price there.
How do I get reimbursed?
If you would like a refund for the license you purchased from the AgileBits Store, and if you bought that within the last 30 days, we can definitely help you with that! I tried searching our system for the email address from your forum account, but I couldn't find your purchase. So I'm guessing you used a different email address - if so, just email us at support+licenses@agilebits.com to request a refund, and include the email address you used to make that purchase so we can find it in our system.
On the other hand, if you recently purchased the Mac App Store version of 1Password and would like a refund for that, you should be able to do that. However, we can't process refunds ourselves for items sold on Apple's App Store. Apple maintains all control over transactions including refunds. You'll have to click the Report a Problem link on the receipt they sent you, and request the refund from them. It is also their sole discretion to grant a refund.
We're always happy to help, so if you have more questions about any of that or are having trouble using 1Password, just let us know! :)
