1password 3 license does not work with 3.822

I have a license for an older version of 1password (3) and due to recent news about LastPass i am interested in using 1password again. The oldest version I can find for download on your site is 3.822, however when I enter my license key I'm told I must purchase a license because my license is not valid with this product. My question is: why does a 1Password 3 license not work with version 3.822?

Thank you

    Hello @somebehemoth,

I've resent your licence information to you. I believe what you originally had was a licence for 1Password 2 that was upgraded at some point to 1Password 3 or at least could have been. This is all from a few years ago so I don't know any of the specifics. I saw that I could regenerate a new 1Password 3 licence for you though so I did and sent it on

Now we've made a lot of changes to 1Password since version 3. If you're going to give us a try it might be more useful to check out version 5 from our AgileBits Download page which you can run for 30 days in a trial mode before making a decision. It was written with Yosemite in mind while 1Password 3 was last updated when Mountain Lion was new. If you do decide you like 1Password 5 you have two options. You can use your existing 1Password 3 licence to purchase 1Password 5 at a discounted upgrade price as long as iCloud Sync isn't a deal breaker for you. If iCloud Sync is important then the only option available is to purchase 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store as CloudKit, the framework for iCloud Sync, is restricted to apps or applications obtained from one of Apple's stores. It's just an option that I'd throw out there but should you really want to look at 1Password 3 you should be able to successfully apply your regenerated licence

What terrific support! The regenerated license worked and I have to say I impressed with iPassword 3 as-is. It has a beautiful interface and so many features. I will take a look at the latest version and seriously consider upgrading.

Keep up the great work and thank you!

I'm glad that resolved the licence hiccup @somebehemoth  As you're running Yosemite and may eventually upgrade to El Capitan there are one or two items to be aware of which we've detailed in 1Password 3: Modern browsers and OS X. It will allow you to know what to expect as I believe in being forewarned where possible. As long as 1Password 3 is serving you well though that's all that matters

Thanks for the heads up about potential issues with 1Password 3. My plan was to evaluate based on verison 3 and upgrade if I thought it could replace LastPass. I think I just wanted to stress in my comment above that even as "old" as version 3 is, it still has a nice UI and it is clearly a very polished user experience. I can only imagine how much it has improved over time.

    Thank you

    Greetings @somebehemoth,

Please do take your time and evaluate 1Password 3  Don't feel forced to purchase the upgrade licence before moving to 1Password 5 though, you can test it for 30 days from the point when you first launch it and that's irrespective of how long you've been running 1Password 3. It will connect to the Agile Keychain in 1Password 3 meaning that if you like 1Password 3 but not 1Password 5 then you've risked nothing.

As always, if you have any questions please do visit the forums and ask
