Secure notes + login items - password re-prompt

Hey guys,

I'm a LastPass user now evaluating options.

One critical feature for me that I can't seem to replicate in 1password: When logged in to 1password (so I can use browser logins etc), if I walk away from my computer, anyone can access all of my data, including secure notes and confidential info.

LastPass has a item-level feature that lets you require a password prompt to access that item, even if logged in already.

This means I can walk away, but know that important info still requires a password - if, someone can try to read a secure note, or if someone tries to reveal/copy a login-item password, it requires re-entering the master password.

Can this be done in 1password? It's a really important feature for me.

Other than this I'm liking 1password so far.

Thanks,

    Hi @beely,

Unfortunately we don't have that level of granularity. It sounds like something we had a long time ago on iOS but that was always more a nod to the power iOS devices had at the time. As soon as we could comfortably encrypt everything with the same parameters we did so leaving us in the position where a vault was either locked or unlocked.

All of our Auto-lock settings are contained within the Security tab of 1Password's preferences and you can always lock your vault either with the menu option 1Password > Lock or the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌥⌘L. That covers the options available in the current versions of 1Password. I don't know how you will find them but it might be we don't meet this particular requirement - sorry :(

Thanks for the confirmation that I wasn't missing something.

I'll have to modify my habits for now while I work with 1P and see how it works for me in practice.

I do consider this an important feature as not all items in my vault are of equal "value" - a random login to a web discussion board is of less "value" than a banking login, or bank/identity details, and I like the extra protection of having that stuff harder to access, without having to continually login in and out of the password manager.

It may be that as a workaround I put the more "valuable" stuff in a separate vault, but there are gotchas to that in terms of additional complexity and syncing.

Anyway, I guess I'd like to consider this as a feature request, then! :)

    Thanks

    Hi @beely,

Thanks for your feedback about that! We're always listening to what our users would like and looking into ways to improve our user experience. Although I can't promise anything, we can certainly pass your request along to our developers. For now, I hope the suggestions from littlebobbytables are helpful for you. Keep in mind that the ⌃⌥⌘L keyboard shortcut should work from anywhere on your Mac, so you don't have to switch to 1Password first.

Aside from that, I hope you're enjoying 1Password. Please let us know if you need anything else! :)
