I bought the App Store version one year ago. Recently I've been asked for a license.

I looked at the version number on OnePassword on my Mac OS, and it says it's "1Password 5", which is supposed to be the AgileBits version, which isn't right? Anyway, now I can't even edit my existing passwords for websites :(

I imagine what you're seeing is a "trial expired" message. Is that correct? If so, this knowledge base article will help you understand why it's happening:

    “Trial Expired” notice (Mac)

The version number you have given is for the the AgileBits store version and the app name is the correct name for that version. I'm wondering whether you've managed to have both versions (the Mac App Store version and the AgileBits store version) on your Mac. If that is the case it would probably explain why you have some difficulties. Do you have both 1Password 5.app and 1Password.app in your Applications folder?

    Hi @hk3dragon,

I'm sorry for any confusion about that! Stephen is right - you currently have the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 installed on your Mac (you may or may not also have the Mac App Store version installed). The link Stephen included in his reply should help to clear up some confusion about the Trial Expired message.

If you're sure you bought 1Password from the Mac App Store, you should be able to launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to make the purchase, and install 1Password from the Purchased tab. That will be version 5, although the app itself will be named 1Password.app in the Applications folder (the AgileBits Store version is the one named 1Password 5.app). When you open the Mac App Store version for the first time, it should find your data from the AgileBits Store version.

Does that help? If you're still having trouble, please let us know how it all goes, and we'll continue from there. Thanks!

In my Applications folder, I only have 1Password 5.app installed it seems.

I realised the issue is that I purchased the iOS 1password app for my iPhone via Itunes. I never purchased the desktop version so when I go to the App Store on my desktop, I don't have 1password.app under my Purchased section.

    Thoughts?

1P for Mac and 1P for iOS are completely separate products. In other words, if you need 1P for Mac you have to buy it. The cost of it has nothing to do with whether or not you have 1P for iOS.

1Password is licensed per person and per platform, rather than per device. You can read more about AgileBits' approach to software licensing in this knowledge base article.

You can buy 1P for Mac either from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits store. There are two things to bear in mind:

    1. If you ever want to use iCloud to sync 1P data between your Mac and iPhone you must buy 1P from the Mac App Store because the version from the AgileBits store doesn't support iCloud sync (following changes made by Apple on the launch of OS X Yosemite). Both versions support sync of 1P data by either local wifi or Dropbox.
    2. If you have owned an earlier version of 1P for Mac you may be entitled to an upgrade discount if you buy from the AgileBits store. That discount won't be available if you buy from the Mac App Store.

    Greetings @hk3dragon,

Hopefully Stephen_C's post helped and there is only one thing I want to add and that is that we currently have a sale on so if you were going to purchase 1Password for Mac you timed it well

Now if you have any questions at all please do ask and we'll do our best to answer them.
