1Password extension for Safari won't install
After repeated attempts, I'm unable to install the 1Password extension for Safari on my MacBook Pro. I've reviewed the knowledgebase, but no joy. I've restarted Safari and attempted to install Password-4.4.4.safariextz using the "Open with Safari" method, but neither approach seems to work.
Check for Updates indicates I'm using the most recent version of 1Password:
1Password 5
Version 5.3.2 (532001)
Error message received:
Safari can’t install this extension
An error occurred while installing the extension “1Password”.

Hey @ONepenthe! Sorry you're having trouble installing the 1Password extension in Safari. Are you having any trouble installing other extensions, or is 1Password the only one having issues?

I'm having the same problem

@roger_landay Thanks for letting us know. As I asked ONepenthe, are you just having issues with the 1Password extension, or are other extensions not able to install as well?

Received Dave Teare's helpful Keep In Sync: Using the 1Password Extension email, today. The pointers would be even more helpful if I could INSTALL THE 1PASSWORD SAFARI EXTENSION, but I can't. I have yet to receive any helpful advice from the Forum on how to resolve the problem (see previous request for assistance).
The only other extensions loaded on my MacBook Pro are for Dropbox and iTunes. These work just fine. Also note that, although, the 1Password icon appears in my toolbar, clicking on it has no effect while 1Password is open.
A little direction would be appreciated.

@ONepenthe Thanks for the update.

We can definitely tackle this. First, could you follow the instructions in this guide?
How to fix the “Safari can’t install this extension” error
If that doesn't help, could you try installing another new extension and see if you have any issues with it? If everything goes smoothly with another extension, please try installing the 1Password extension again and make sure to take a screenshot of the error you receive. You can attach the screenshot to a post in these forums by dragging and dropping it.
Hope that helps get things going!

Following a lot of digging I think I've been able to resolve the problem on my own. Restarting Safari had no positive effect. I installed two new extensions associated with Facebook and these worked fine.
Please also note that suggested fix No. 2 in, "How to fix the “Safari can’t install this extension error" served no purpose as there is no Safari Extension folder in Library > Safari folder on my Macbook Pro.
Suggested fix No. 2 states, "As a last resort, you can try uninstalling all your extensions and then moving the Safari Extensions folder to the Trash. This folder is located in the Library > Safari folder, within your home folder. This will force Safari to recreate everything and thereby fix any corruption that may have happened."
I believe the problem was rooted in having multiple versions of the app file in my Applications folder. I had a 1Password (version 3) file, and a 1Password5 file in the Applications folder. After moving the 1Password file to the Trash, the Safari extension seems to work fine.

@ONepenthe Good for you, investigating things and finding a solution. :) Multiple copies of 1Password does cause a lot of issues, though they are mainly with 1Password Mini being unable to connect to the app. Since there was an old version and a new one, that definitely could have confused things a bit. I'm glad you posted the solution here so others can learn from it if they have a similar problem.
Let us know if you have any other questions, and enjoy 1Password!
