Hidden fields get synced

Sometimes, when I save a login from a website login form, there are hidden fields that get picked up. Something like "Login" or "Remember me". Half of the time I can spot those by "show web form details" and then remove them. But sometimes they just don't show up in Mac version app. They would show up in the iOS version or Windows version (all latest). And it's really hard to clean those hidden fields.

    Hi @hotpxl,

I'm glad you asked about that, as you shouldn't normally be deleting web form details from your Login items! When you save a new Login item using the 1Password extension in a browser (on Mac or Windows), it saves the fields you've filled in (i.e. username and password) as well as other details about the fields in that form. Those web form details are used by 1Password to fill the same login form when you go back to that site and use the 1Password extension. Although web form details might not make a big difference for filling login forms on some sites, it can make a very big difference on others.

If there's a problem trying to fill a login form by using the web form details, 1Password will switch to another method of filling your login credentials, which is essentially making a "best guess" about which fields to fill with which credentials. That often works, but filling login forms works much more reliably when web form details can be used.

Is there a reason why you're trying to delete some web form details? If so, we'd be interested to know, as that may help us improve 1Password in the future. Thanks! :)

It really feels weird to have "hidden" fields in the database. Some kind of OCD probably :). But also I'm quite certain that those hidden fields are not going to be used anyways so I'd like the database to be as small as possible. It would be great if you could enable advanced editing functions or cleanup methods for ppl wanting to customize.

    Hi @hotpxl,

The web form details aren't shown by default because you wouldn't normally need to see them - they're used behind the scenes when 1Password fills the login form, so it would probably cause confusion for a lot of folks if they saw those by default in 1Password. But it's very easy to see them by clicking the "show web form details" button in a Login item.

Those fields will be a bit different for each Login item, because the login form is a bit different on each website (which is one reason why saving web form details helps 1Password fill that same form in the future). You can certainly delete some of those form details from a Login item if you want to, but doing so might cause a problem for some sites. You don't need any advanced editing options to delete web form details - when editing an item, just click the "show web form details" button and you can delete any fields you want.

The amount of space used by web form details is extremely small, so I'm not sure you'll notice any significant difference in the size of your vault after removing them. Personally, I don't think deleting web form details will really help at all, but you're welcome to try doing that if you want to (just make sure you have a recent backup in case something goes very wrong).

If you have more questions about that or need anything else, just let us know. :)

Thanks. The problem is, entries are NOT CONSISTENT across platforms. I can see some stuff on Windows, some on iOS, but not all on Mac.

@hotpxl: You're absolutely right! Consistency is something we're working to improve going forward. Thanks again for bringing this up! :)
