I am running 10.8.5 on my Macbook Pro. I purchased 1Password 5, but it downloaded as 4. My iPhone and iPad are running it fine on 5.

Can you just explain a little more please? The heading to your post refers to a difficulty with sync but the body of your post refers to an inability to install. I'm not being pedantic :) but just want to be clear that the actual difficulty is an inability to install 1P5.

If that's the case please tell us exactly:

Edit: After posting this reply I found the other thread you posted apparently about the same problem. I've merged the two threads because it makes support much easier and also makes it easier for you to find the answers you need.

    Hi @gubamom,

I'm sorry you're having some trouble installing 1Password 5 for Mac! It sounds like the problem is simply that your Mac is running OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion), because 1Password 5 requires OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El Capitan).

In order to use 1Password 5 on that Mac, you would first need to update OS X. If that's not an option for you, you'll need to continue using 1Password 4. Did you purchase a license for 1Password 5 from the AgileBits Store? If so, that license file will also activate 1Password 4, so that's not a problem.

Hopefully this helps, but if you have more questions or need anything else, just let us know! :)
