1password launches firefox twice and improperly fills in the username/password

When I launch a web site using "Open & Fill," Firefox starts twice: 1) Firefox home Page and 2)the selected target web site. However it never fills in the user name and password correctly. I have tried it from the browser tool bar and from within the 1password application. Also I have deleted and re-added web sites thinking they must have been updated. The problem persists.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Does the problem happen when you already have a Firefox window open?

    Hi @jspickens,

I'm sorry the 1Password extension isn't working as expected in Firefox!

When I launch a web site using "Open & Fill," Firefox starts twice: 1) Firefox home Page and 2)the selected target web site

As Stephen asked, does that happen when a Firefox window is already open? This might be expected behavior, depending on the exact circumstances. I'm also curious if two different Firefox windows are being opened, or one window with two tabs. Is the Firefox app running when you use the open & fill option? Also, click on the 1Password extension (or 1Password mini), then click the gear icon to the right of the Search field - near the bottom of the settings menu, which option is selected for "Open URLs in..."?

However it never fills in the user name and password correctly.

Does it fill the wrong information in the username/password fields? Or is the problem that it doesn't fill those fields at all? Does this happen with all websites you've tried, or just one specific site? If this happens for a specific site, would you be able to let us know the URL so we can test it ourselves?

What version of Firefox do you currently have installed? Also, it sounds like open & fill isn't working, but what if you go to that website first, and then click the 1Password extension icon and choose the Login item for that site (or use the ⌘\ keyboard shortcut)?

    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. This is hard to believe as I have had the problem now for several weeks but all seems to be working correctly again. I can successfully launch the target web site from within the FireFox browser and from within 1Passport. I will note that launching from within 1Passport launches FireFox and opens 2 tabs. The first is the FireFox Home page. The second it the target web site.

Again all seems to be working and thank you for you help.

    Hi @jspickens,

Thanks for following up with the good news. We're glad to hear all is well.

I will note that launching from within 1Passport launches FireFox and opens 2 tabs. The first is the FireFox Home page. The second it the target web site.

I am able to duplicate this behavior as well. At this point I can't say for sure if it's caused by something in 1Password or something in Firefox, but we'll look into it. I'm tempted to attribute it to some setting in Firefox because I don't see it happen with Safari or Chrome, but as I said I don't know for sure. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

All the issues I experienced came with a recent update of Firefox if that helps. I also noticed my bank web site does not work well with Firefox (again after the recent update).

    Greetings @jspickens,

Something unusual is going on, at least with Firefox. I was first testing open and fill in 1Password and it seemed to be okay except that it was opening a second tab just as you say. So I thought, how does Firefox behave if I click a normal link in some other application, something not associated with 1Password at all.

Suddenly I'm getting two windows opening, one tab in each. I didn't even realise to begin with as the top window was empty and it just looked like it wasn't opening the URL at all. I then tested Firefox ESR (which is based on Firefox 38) and it behaved differently from Firefox 41. It might be a minor update to Firefox is all we need to wait for with a little luck.

With your bank's web site, is it something between 1Password and Firefox or is it even just getting Firefox to load the site correctly?
