I purchased a new iMac yesterday and can not get 1Password to accept my existing password.

I've tried Googling for help but nothing has helped. 1PW is working fine on my iPhone and iPad. On my iMac I get the Welcome to 1Password 5! screen but when I enter my PW it just wiggles and the "key" area turns red.

Going through Dropbox I am able to open 1Password anywhere.

The application size on the iMac is 62.9 MB.

Do you have any suggestions?

I get the Welcome to 1Password 5! screen

Can we just check exactly what you do then, please? If you look at this excerpt from the user guide you'll see:

    • you should click Awesome! Let's Get Started in the bottom right hand corner of the welcome window; and
    • then you should see a window offering you a choice of new user or I've used 1Password before.

I'm assuming you've clicked on I've used 1Password before. Is that correct? If so you should then be taken to a screen asking where is your existing 1P data. (Note at that stage you've not been asked for a master password.)

Does any of this help? If not, please tell us exactly where in the process things go wrong.

  • Hey @danro! Did Stephen_C's advice help you get things moving on your iMac? If you're syncing with Dropbox, you should be able to connect your data to 1Password simply by following the guide that Stephen posted. However, if you're having an issue with something in Dropbox or if your Master Password simply isn't being accepted after you set things up, please let us know so we can figure out what's going on. :)

The problem solved itself. My Dropbox folder has been nonstop downloading since I started up my new computer and I'm guessing that Dropbox just caught up with 1Password. 1PW is working just fine now. Thank you both for your responses.

  • @danro This is wonderful news! :) Dropbox does tend to take a while when downloading to a new computer. I'm so glad to hear everything is sorted out now. If you ever need anything, we're just a few keyboard taps and a click away.
