folder sync ok, how to use the vault inside?
I've gone round and round on this, support docs all assume I'm somewhere else.
Latest version 1Password 5, Version 5.3.2 (532001), trying to do a folder sync from laptop to desktop. No problem with sync (using BitTorrent Sync--there's an unrelated question in the forum on that)--the file is sync'd and available. Laptop has current (new) import from another pwd manager. Now how to get the desktop to USE that sync'd file?
I'm past the "signing on as a new user" point, can't find a way to get back to that short of uninstalling/reinstalling. I go to Prefs > Sync and find the folder (with the file in it) but my only choice is to create a NEW vault (which overwrites the real data). Can't just select the folder, or Open a vault.
A little help please?

Do these two excerpts from the user guide help?
Using existing 1Password data on a new computer
Elsewhere on your Mac
(The last one refers to using data which is in another folder on your Mac.

Thanks Stephen_C,
I saw those but they do not help because I can't get to the first step. They assume a fresh install and first time opening of the app. It was a fresh install two days ago but now I'm in it. I was hoping not to uninstall and reinstall just to use a passwords file.
If there's a way to get back to the "I'm a new user" screen, I haven't found it.
BTW, the second link to Elsewhere: it isn't clear to a new user that "Choose This Mac" is only available on first open. There's no menu item called This Mac once you're past that initial choice.

Is there really no way to "open" a shared file from within the app?

Hi @Imconfused,
I'm sorry you're having trouble syncing your data with 1Password on your desktop Mac! I'm sure we can help you out with that.
Just to make sure I understand your current setup: You installed 1Password on your laptop, and all your data is there. You used the Folder Sync option to sync your data to a local folder on that laptop, and you configured BitTorrent Sync to sync that folder with your desktop. On your desktop, you installed 1Password and created a new, empty vault, and you want to sync your data there. Is that all correct?
If so, it should be fairly simple at this point. When you enabled Folder Sync in 1Password on your laptop, that would have created a 1Password.agilekeychain file. The important thing is that you need to sync that file to the desktop (which I believe you have done using BitTorrent Sync). So, assuming you now have a copy of that .agilekeychain on your desktop, you can follow these steps to sync it with 1Password on the desktop:
- Open the main 1Password app on your desktop Mac (enter your master password if prompted).
- Go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then choose the Sync tab.
- Choose Folder from the “Sync vault with” pop-up menu.
- Click the Choose button, then select the 1Password.agilekeychain file that you synced from the laptop (and click Open).
- Click Merge with Existing (enter the master password if prompted).
If all goes well, you should now have all your vault data in 1Password on your desktop, and changes should sync back & forth between your two Macs. Please let us know how it goes, and if you run into any problems with that, we'll continue from there. Thanks!

Thanks Drew_AG,
Exactly the kind of directions I was looking for.
Mysteriously, I had the chance to Merge with Existing at one point, which I did. That resulted in the sync'd file going blank. That wasn't good.
Checked my laptop and all passwords were there, so I disconnected the sync on desktop, copied the correct file back to sync folder, made sure the file was sync'd on both computers, then tried to find Merge on desktop again. From this point on, Merge was not an available option. Only Create New was. I considered this a bug but wasn't sure how I could reproduce it.
Got impatient with this problem, so I did end up uninstalling and reinstalling the app, then proceeded from new as Stephen_C advised above. It's working now. Hope others don't have this same problem.

Hi @Imconfused,
We are sorry to hear about all the problems you've had and I'm quite puzzled as to why 1Password was refusing to connect to the Agile Keychain when you selected it. Hopefully things runs smoothly now but please do contact us if they don't.
