Restore vault over WiFi

I really love the idea of your WiFi sync feature, but I've been wondering if it is possible to restore a vault over WiFi.
For instance, I have to reinstall my main system; could I then restore a vault from my mobile device, or will I have to hope to have a current backup around (eg Time-Machine vor Mac OS)?

  • @mrbombastick - If your 1Password data is on your mobile device, you can use WiFi sync to sync that data back to a newly installed version of 1Password on your Mac. I would strongly advise backing up 1Password on your device first and here is a guide for that.

Neat, in the case of a catastrophic event I could restore my vault even if 'only' my iOS device survived; without ever requiring a cloud service.
(not that I want that to be necessary, it's just good to know)

  • @mrbombastick - that's correct, if you only have your 1Password data on your iOS device you can recover it from there. That said, you can never have too many backups. You can create backups from 1Password on your iOS device as described here. 1Password on Mac automatically creates backup whenever your 1Password data is changed. It's also wise to manually backup these backups to an external source, such as with Time Machine or with a cloud backup service. I use both to backup all the files on my Mac.
