Only Apple can help you with this, since they completely control the Mac App Store and don't even inform developers about who bought their product.
I'd guess that this message means that the application was purchased under a different Apple ID than the one you are currently logged in with. Or you asked for a refund from Apple in the past. When you do that, you can't update or even repurchase the same application again.

Same issue here after changing my Apple ID **PASSWORD **(the Apple ID is the same as before)

Hi @sootan,
I'm sorry you're also having trouble downloading the update. Unfortunately, as hawkmoth explained, we really don't have any control over that. Apple IDs and the purchases associated with those IDs are controlled entirely by Apple. We simply do not have access to their system.
If all you changed was the password for your Apple ID, then as a general suggestion, you may want to try signing out of the Mac App Store, then sign back in again. Then go to the Purchased or Updates section and try to install the update for 1Password. If that doesn't work, reboot your Mac and try again, in case that helps.
I'm sorry that Apple doesn't give us more control in these situations! Please let us know how it goes, thanks!

Thank you for the feedback!
As it turned out I verified syncing was working so made the logical decision to uninstall 1Passeord and re-download and install it.
That worked perfectly until I realized Apple charged me another $29.99
I will be calling Apple later today. Thank you again for a great product and support.0 -
Greetings @sootan,
The key is definitely to contact Apple promptly as after a certain period of time the chances of a refund do dwindle. This is the third time I've seen this message today so I would be most interested in learning what Apple say if you are happy to disclose as it may well help others. It might be you judge that it can't help others too and that's only a call you can make. Fingers crossed it can all be resolved in a satisfactory manner though

I did call Apple and received horrendous support. The first guy couldn't find any charge on my account using my Apple ID or my credit card number. I offered to forward the Apple-generated receipt but he didn't want that so he passed the buck and sent me to AppleCare. That person wanted my computer SN so that was obviously the wrong queue. At the end I called him on his BS tactics as he was trying to refer me to an Apple web page. WTF? Has nothing to do with hardware. The incompetence I encountered was not worth the increased blood pressure so I disconnected which is probably what they wanted. I'll eat the $29.99 and never buy any software from the Apple Store again but rather directly from the developer.

Okay. I called Apple and found out that I had received a refund on my 1Password. But for some reason, in the realm of iTunes thought, they only show debits in your "account activity". I scratch my head a lot trying to think how they design some of the software. Why would they not show credits? But I vent and digress, Anyway, here's my question. I need to "repurchase" 1Password. No problem. But will I loose all of my log ons? Will I need to redo them? Thanks in advance.

In my case, I first made sure syncing via iCloud was working. Since I run 1Pasword on my phone as well, I wasn't worried about data loss. However, there is an option within the desktop version to do a local backup (which I didn't do). Once I downloaded and re-installed I found everything resident. There was zero configuration. It was as it was before the uninstall which is why I initially thought there was no charge - until I checked my bank account. But again, in terms of the uninstall/reinstall, there were no problems or issues.

@sootan, I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with Apple support! That does sound extremely frustrating (which perhaps is an understatement). I'm glad to hear you have 1Password back up and working now, although it's too bad you had to repurchase it. If you run into more problems with 1Password, please let us know! :)
@genec123, you shouldn't lose any of your 1Password data, as that's stored separately from the 1Password app. You might need to delete the current copy of the 1Password app first, before repurchasing it - if so, just drag 1Password.app from the Applications folder to the Trash (do not use any app cleaning utilities, as that can cause problems). After you empty the Trash, you should be able to repurchase 1Password from the Mac App Store and install it. The first time you open it after that, it should find your data just like it normally does.
Having said that, it wouldn't hurt to make sure you have a current backup before doing that (from the main 1Password app, go to File > Backup). If you're already using one of the sync options, you should a copy of your vault in Dropbox, iCloud, or on another device - but make sure you use the backup function in the app itself.
If you run into any trouble with that, just let us know - we're always happy to help! :)
