Having trouble updating via Mac App Store
Hi,
I´ve got an update but when I try to update I get this message from AppStore: Uppdateringen är inte tillgänglig för detta Apple-ID eftersom objektet köptes av en annan användare eller så har objektet återbetalats eller avslutats.
When I try to open 1Password I get this message: ”1Password.app” är skadat och kan inte öppnas. Radera ”1Password.app” och hämta det igen från App Store.
But I can´t get it from AppStore for obvious reasons. So I´m stuck!
I bought 1Password on the net, from whom I can´t remember. I was then asked to go over to AppStore and from that time it has worked fine. But now all of a sudden I can´t get it from there.
Please help me! I can´t work without 1Password.
Regards,
Olle Wickbom

Hello @ollew,
I used Bing Translator to see if I could understand the two messages and the first message would indicate we need to discover what happened when you obtained 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store. The message is saying that you don't have a purchase of 1Password tied to your Apple ID and then it lists a number of possible reasons why. Now it seems you definitely have the Mac App Store version and as it's only possible to have this if there was a purchase made in Apple's Mac App Store we need to determine why Apple are saying it isn't linked to your Apple ID.
- Do you have more than one Apple ID?
- Have you changed the country that the Apple ID is associated with at all?
- Did you ever ask for a refund for your purchase of 1Password for Mac (Mac App Store)?
Hopefully we can figure out what is going on. Now when it comes to Apple's stores we have no access at all so we won't be able to say anything conclusively. This should hopefully narrow things down though and a call to Apple will hopefully confirm. How to proceed will be based on finding out what happened and why.
For now though you should be able to download a copy of 1Password for Mac from our AgileBits Download page. If it doesn't show you your current vault please do let us know as we might have to do some clearing out of old data to proceed.

- If I didn´t buy the app from AppStore, how come I get a message from AppStore that an update is available?
- Yes, i have two AppleID:s. Neither is working for this update,
- I downloaded a copy from AgileBits Download page. It showed my vault and works fine now. But, should I erase the old programme? Because the new app is called 1Password 5. Don´t I disturb the new 1Password 5 app?
- I also have 1Password for iOS and it has worked fine the whole time.

Hello @ollew,
I wasn't suggesting you hadn't purchased from Apple's Mac App Store, indeed I do believe you have purchased it purely because you have a copy on your Mac. Unlike 1Password for Mac (AgileBits Store), it isn't possible to test 1Password from the Mac App Store - the only way to use it is to have purchased it. We have also seen a few more reports of the same message since you first contacted us. I don't have an explanation yet and it's tough because anything to do with the Mac App Store is controlled by Apple. Apple share no information, we have no control and nor can we even discuss the matter on your behalf with Apple.
Do you keep all of your Apple receipts for purchases made in their stores? If you do I would recommend finding the receipt for 1Password for Mac and contacting Apple. I would say it's a glitch and the receipt will help strengthen your position as you can show that you definitely purchased 1Password for Mac. I would recommend attempting to resolve this though as we don't want you denied access to 1Password in the future in case the glitch requires a correction on Apple's side.
Just to give you a heads up, if you were syncing via iCloud before you won't be able to right now. Only the Mac App Store version is capable of doing so. I am sorry you've gone through this and I hope Apple can help.

I have spoken to Apple Support and they are pretty sure about what has happened.
Now they want to know: If I now delete the whole 1Password programme and download it again, what will happen to all my passwords and data? Will they still be there? Or is there another way to keep my passwords and data?0 -
@ollew - If you drag the application itself from the Applications folder to the trash and empty the trash, you will not lose your data. But do not, under any circumstances, use an application cleaner. Those will often ferret out the database and delete that too.
When you download the fresh copy, it will find your data. You'll need to enter your master password to get the data loaded.

Hi @ollew,
I'm glad Apple Support seems to know what caused the problem!
Hawkmoth is absolutely right: your 1Password data is stored separately from the 1Password app. So if you delete just the app, your data will still be there (just make sure you don't use any app cleaning utilities). When you reinstall 1Password the app, it will find your data.
Just in case it helps you or Apple Support, we explain where your 1Password is stored here: Where does 1Password store its data?
Please let us know how it all goes, and if you have more questions. :)

It went very fine to download and install the programme. All the passwords were there. But I had to pay SEK 519 for it although Apple had promised me no charge, since a person out of my control had done something wrong when I bought it. I had also got all the previous updates from AppStore. Till now.
No wonder Apple make enormous profits if they handle things in this way.

Hi @ollew,
Although I'm sorry to hear you ended up having to pay Apple for help despite their promise that you wouldn't have to, I am very happy to hear the problem is now resolved, and that you're back up and running with 1Password and your data! :)
Did Apple happen to explain what the problem was? We've had some other customers report similar error messages when trying to download the latest update from the Mac App Store, but we haven't been able to do much except suggest contacting Apple for help, since we don't have access to their systems. If you don't mind letting us know, we're all ears! ;)

This is what has happened:
I bought 1Password on the net, from whom I can´t remember. Something went wrong and the girl at Apple that took my call couldn´t sort this out, so she said they would´t charge me any money. I got it for free. I was then asked to go over to AppStore and from that time it has worked fine. Until now.. All of a sudden I can´t get updates from AppStore. They haven´t charged me for anything but for the 1Password programme. SEK 519. In spite of getting it for free.

Hey @ollew!
I bought 1Password on the net, from whom I can´t remember.
Did you possibly purchase 1Password from the AgileBits Store at this point? We can help you find your license if you did, but we'll need a bit more info so let us know if this is the case.
I was then asked to go over to AppStore and from that time it has worked fine. Until now.. All of a sudden I can´t get updates from AppStore.
There are usually two causes for this issue: You're not signed in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the app in the Mac App Store, or you returned it and need to purchase it again. If your case is the former, I'd recommend heading to the App Store and trying a few different accounts you've used over the years to update it. If it's the latter, you'll need to move the app to the trash and purchase 1Password again. Hopefully you can find your copy quickly. Let us know how it goes!

I bought 1Password once more from AppStore, downloaded the app and now it´s working fine. It cost me another SEK 500 but Apple is poor, so I contributed.

@ollew, I'm sorry to hear about all the trouble you needed to go through, and that you needed to purchase it from the Mac App Store again, but I am glad that 1Password is installed and working again for you now. Hopefully you're all set, but if you have more questions or need anything else, just let us know - we're here for you! :)
