Deleted Mac Store. MacBook pro IOS 10.10.5. NO GO TimeMach. restore. How do I buy my upgrade w/o app

I deleted the Mac Store app on my Mac (see above). There is an icon in my apps, but doesn't do anything. Tried restoring the store app from my Time Machine, but can't because of apparent conflict with the non working one in my apps folder, but can't delete that due to message from apple that it is necessary. I want to buy the full version of your wonderful program (was using trial for OS x and use the program for iOS), so there is iCloud sync. BUT, seems I can't get back the Mac Store app on my computer.

    Hi @dorosbourne,

This is an unusual one. I found one post elsewhere on the web that suggested installing the combo update helped them although that was Snow Leopard. It's worth a shot to see if it helps in your case though and this link for the OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 Combo Update is what you would need. This is unchartered territory for me so please do let us know how you get along with using it.

Hi. I actually did try that combo update; probably found the info the same place as you in the Apple Support Community. I even figured out how to DELETE my Mac App Store Icon and files that did not work to open the "store" by using "Trash It," a great program for big files and difficult files. I then turned my machine off then on again before I did that update. Unfortunately, instead of fixing the problem, the same "not working" app appeared again. Unfortunately, I am away from basic civilization, i.e., the Apple store is 15 minutes away VS 2 ½ hours now, and I won't be near the Apple store or my regular Mac technician for another 2 ½ weeks. I am sure it will be resolved, but my excitement was the lowered price of your wonderful program to $29.99 for the Mac OX version (compared to the $49.99 normal price.) I have the iOS version, but the Mac trial eventually ended.

Here is an idea, and please let me know if you would agree: Would you ensure that I would be able to purchase the program for the lowered price by Mid November? That gives me time, once home, to get an appointment at the Apple store for some resolution. I need to get it through the Mac App store, according to your literature, if I want the iCloud sync, which I do.

Please let me know about my idea, or if you have others.

    Greetings @dorosbourne,

Sadly it does sound like you will either need to visit an Apple Store or try calling Apple but I've never tried to recover from a situation like this I'm afraid - sorry.

Unfortunately I have no control over the sale, in fact I'm not even privy to knowledge of when it ends. In regards to the Mac App Store how it works is we set a price available for all as it isn't possible to offer a certain price for an individual. Trust me, if that were possible we would have made good use of it already.

How important is the iCloud support, is it just strongly preferable or do you deem it a must have feature?

Must feature since all three devices I own are Apple. Thanks for the info. If I update to the next OX version maybe that will fix it, too? Appreciate your help.

Of course, if you regard iCloud sync as a must, that's fine. But, as a reference point, all my devices are Apple ones and I still use Dropbox sync, not iCloud.

@dorosbourne: I suspect that updating would force OS X to install a new (perhaps newer) copy of the App Store app...but I would only attempt this after backing up everything, as I can't predict that something might not go wrong — always a risk with any major update. Ultimately the Apple Store may be the best option.
