Upgraded 1Passw. to 5.4 (540046) from App store after 3 days it crashed when launching the app, error> about 1Pass mini. Looked up the error on the web page and found a new version 5.4 (540047) ?? for Mac Os. Perhaps this was the solution then? No this version DID NOT install my old passwords!! One day later this new version crashed at startup, no answer why... How come there are two different versions for Mac OS X? Why did the 540047 version not complete the installation with the latest version of my saved passwords? How come both of these versions crash att startup because of this new function 1passw. mini? (Is i really needed) 1Password has been working well for over one 12 months, why do you mess this up?

1Password Version: 5.4

Addition to comment: Had to delete application from my Mac because it refused to work with Firefox, nice :( Re-installed and marked/unchecked 1Passw mini i setup, it worked until I re-launched Firefox. Then I received a pop-up that suggested I had to install 1Password?! I just did that 5 minutes ago!! When i looked in the setup for 1Passw. the box for 1Pass mini was filled again - not by me! What's happening?

    Hi @netbrev,

I'm sorry you're having some trouble with 1Password! It sounds like there are a few different issues here, although some might be due to having multiple versions/copies of 1Password on your Mac at the same time (more on that below). Let's start with the confusion about the versions:

How come there are two different versions for Mac OS X?

1Password for Mac is available from our AgileBits Store and from the Mac App Store. They're both currently version 5.4, and in general they're the same - but due to the way the Mac App Store works, there are some necessary differences, such as where each version stores data on your Mac, how updates are installed, and so on (the only major difference is that iCloud sync is only in the Mac App Store version). Because of those inherent differences, the Mac App Store and AgileBits Store versions have slightly different build numbers. The build number for the Mac App Store is currently 540046, and the build number for the AgileBits Store version is currently 540047. All that really means is that one is from the Mac App Store and one is from the AgileBits Store.

It sounds like you were using the Mac App Store version, but then downloaded a copy from our website. Aside from confusion, that can actually cause some strange problems, and I think explains at least some of the issues you've described.

The Mac App Store and AgileBits Store versions of 1Password store data in different locations on your Mac. Normally, if you're using one and then switch to the other, it should be able to find your existing data, but there are some reasons why it might not.

However, if you continue using the Mac App Store version and remove the AgileBits Store version, this isn't a problem because you already have your data in the Mac App Store version.

Can you please let us know the exact error message you get when trying to open 1Password? That will give us a much better idea of what might be causing the problem. If possible, it would be great to see a screenshot of that error.

You didn't mention what sort of problem you were having with 1Password and Firefox, but it shouldn't have been necessary to delete & reinstall the 1Password app to solve that. I think the problem with the 1Password extension in Firefox is most likely related to having multiple 1Password apps on your Mac, but if you can describe the exact problem you're having in Firefox, we'll be happy to help you fix that.

    Re-installed and marked/unchecked 1Passw mini i setup, it worked until I re-launched Firefox. Then I received a pop-up that suggested I had to install 1Password?! I just did that 5 minutes ago!!

The 1Password browser extension works by connecting to 1Password mini. If you disabled 1Password mini, the extension wasn't able to find 1Password, and therefore gave you an error about needing to have the main app installed. If it was working at first, you probably either had the main 1Password app open, or 1Password mini was enabled in the other copy of 1Password that you have installed. (If two copies of 1Password are running at the same time, that will also cause problems.)

When i looked in the setup for 1Passw. the box for 1Pass mini was filled again - not by me! What's happening?

My guess is that you disabled 1Password mini in one version but kept it active in the other, and were perhaps confused about which version's settings you were looking at, since they mostly look the same.

I think at least some of the problems will go away once you remove all extra copies of 1Password from your Mac. The Mac App Store version is the one named 1Password.app, which should be in the Applications folder. Assuming you want to delete the AgileBits Store version, find the app named 1Password 5.app and drag that to the Trash (do not use any app cleaning utilities). Empty the Trash, then reboot your Mac.

If you still have some problems after that, you might have other copies of 1Password on your Mac. This knowledgebase article will help you find them: How to remove multiple, conflicting copies of 1Password from your system

Please let us know how it all goes up to this point. If you're still having trouble, we'll continue from there. Thanks!
