Got the mini failed to connect message. 1password works, no mini on the Mac.

Did upgrade... then the above.

Do I have to reinstall? - is my data preserved in the process? How will this effect info and upgrades on pad and phone?

    Please try the suggestion in this AgileBits post.

    Edit: it will in no way interfere with your 1P data.

    @Podangis: Sorry for the trouble! Indeed, just follow Stephen_C's suggestion and you should be all set. And it won't affect your data or your other devices; OS X is just inexplicably failing to remove the quarantine flag on 1Password mini in some cases. Please let us know how it turns out! :)
