Do any of those apply to you? I.e., are you signed on with the same Apple ID as you used when you bought 1Password? Did you ever obtain a refund from Apple in respect of 1Password?

I'm afraid, ultimately, this sounds like an Apple problem which you're going to have to pursue with Apple—simply because AgileBits has no control over the Apple Store and no access to its data.

I currently have version 5.3 on my Mac. I have a different apple id now, but I tried signing in with older passwords with no luck. never received a refund in respect to 1Password.

I have a different apple id now,

That sounds to me to be the key to your problem. Apple will allow you to update an app freely only if you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used when you originally bought the app.

So, I can never upgrade my 1Password app?

@normand43 - You can upgrade for free if you sign out of your current Apple ID and sign back in under the one you used to buy your license. Apple ties all of its licensing to the Apple ID used to buy the apps. To make matters worse, they won't let anyone merge multiple Apple IDs into a single preferred one. That's exasperating, to be sure, but nothing that AgileBits has any control over.

If you want the update under your new Apple ID, Apple will indeed insist that you pay for the application again.

Ok thank you for the advice.

  • Hey @normand43,

It looks like hawkmoth and Stephen_C were able to help you sort things out here. Sorry if it's a bit inconvenient to use your old Apple ID — at the moment there isn't anything that can be done about that within Apple's system. If you don't need to use iCloud sync, though, we can switch you to the AgileBits Store version and you can get the latest updates using your license there. If you ever need to change your email address through there, we can also do that for you. :) You can look into the differences between versions in this article. Let me know if you'd like to do that.

Thanks. I bought it on AgileBits Store & will get the update there.
