after updating 1password on mac to version 5.4 (os x 10.11) I lost about 200 entries in 1password
these entries must still be available on backups. They can however not be restored because 1password 5.4 refuses to restore from files with extension agilekeychain_zip. the entries are also available on my ios devices (ipad and iphone). I have been trying to recover these entries using wifi sync but I am getting sync error 7027. what can i do? I would rather restore from backup than risking my data on the ios devices

There is a knowledge base article which covers the sync error you are getting. You might like to see if that helps:
Wi-Fi Sync error 7027: Attempted to sync with a different vault than originally configured (iOS)
If that doesn't help please tell us what version of 1Password for iOS you are using.

I am using version 6.02 on ios, and I cannot find any possibility to disable wifi sync there. Does this mean that I have to settle to the reinstallation procedure?

Does Settings > Vault > Primary > Sync Service > Disable Sync work for you? (Just unsure whether we're both on the same version!)

No, it does not, there is no "disable sync"-option for the primary vault (at least not in the german language version)

Hi @klauslindner,
I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you. We'll do our best to get your data back in shape. First I'd like to ask you some questions that will help us down the line in the event that the quicker fixes don't do the trick...
- Can you tell me what you were using to sync between your Mac and iOS devices before you did the upgrade?
- You mentioned that these items are still present in iOS. That's great! Let's make sure we don't put those at risk. Go to Settings > Advanced on 1Password for iOS, and tap the "Create Backup" button. This will create a backup of the database. If we want to be extra careful, we could even use iTunes File Sharing to get that backup off the device. (all data in that backup is encrypted)
- Can you tell me where you go the "agilekeychain_zip" file?
- How many vaults do you have on the Mac and iOS devices? Is it just the one?
- When you upgraded to 5.4, did it give you a message about damaged items at all? 5.4 included a check for items that were irreparably damaged in your database and cleared them out before they could do any more damage. That's the most likely reason I can think of for why you'd have lost items. I've never heard of it finding 200 items though, I think the most I've ever seen is 2.
The first thing we should look at trying is to use 1Password for Mac's built-in Backup. If you open the Preferences window, you should find the Backups tab. There it should list the backups that 1Password automatically made for you, and it should tell you how many items are in each backup along with the date. See if you can find a backup that has the right number of items, and attempt restoring from it.
Assuming that the items were removed due to being damaged in our database, restoring from that backup might cause the same thing to happen. Assuming your iOS devices and your Mac have the same vaults (most people only have the 1 vault) then we should look at getting that backup from the iOS device, and restoring it on your Mac.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rick,
I will try to answer your questions:
1. I always use WLAN-sync to synchronize between OS-X and my iOS devices
2. Both measures on iOS have been taken, I made a backup on iOS and exported it to my notebook, so nothing is lost there yet.
3. interestingly I have 2 directories in ~/Library/Application Support/. They are "1Password" and "1Password 4", and they both contain a subdirectory Backups, the one under "1Password 4" contains backups with extension .1p4_zip and the one under "1Password" files with extension .agilekeychain_zip. The latter range back to dates in August and can not be selected for restore purposes, the former do not reach back to dates before I upgraded to 5.4, so they are worthless in my case. Both contain files up now (October 23).
4. I have just one vault
5. The upgrade to 5.4 was completely silent, no errors, no warnings.
6. The 1Password for Mac backup is not valuable for me, because I can not go back to a date before upgrading to 5.4
7. The sync between iOS and OS X does not work, I am getting a sync problem with Error Domain = NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code 60 "Operation timed out" (I graded up from 5.4 to 5.4.1 yesterday).Of course a could sync manually by finding the entries that are not on OS X manually and put them in, but that will take hours.
By the way, I might not have given exact wording on the sync error message, I am using a german language version (I am german).Thank you for your help!

Hi @klauslindner,
I apologize for the delay in getting back to you about this! It sounds like there might be a few different issues going on so it's been tricky to figure out, but after reading through everything here, I think I can help. Thank you very much for the information Rick asked you for! :)
these entries must still be available on backups. They can however not be restored because 1password 5.4 refuses to restore from files with extension agilekeychain_zip.
If I understand, it sounds like you upgraded to 1Password 5 for Mac fairly recently, and before that you might have been using 1Password 3 for Mac. Versions 3 and 5 have different backup formats: Backup files for 1Password 3 end in ".agilekeychain_zip" and backup files for 1Password 5 end in ".1p4_zip". If you want to restore data from a .agilekeychain_zip backup file to 1Password 5, follow these steps:
- Rename the backup file to: 1Password.agilekeychain.zip
- Double-click that file to unzip it, and it will now be named 1Password.agilekeychain
- Open 1Password 5 (unlock it with your master password if prompted) and go to the menu for 1Password 5 > Preferences
- Select Sync, then choose Folder from the “Sync Primary vault with” pop-up menu
- Click the Choose button, then select the 1Password.agilekeychain file you just created (and click Open)
- Click the Merge with Existing button to sync your data from that file (enter the master password if prompted)
Alternately, instead of restoring from the 1Password 3 backup, you could restore from the backup you saved from your iPad or iPhone:
Both measures on iOS have been taken, I made a backup on iOS and exported it to my notebook, so nothing is lost there yet.
If you saved that backup to your Mac, it should be a .1p4_zip file. To restore from that file:
- Open 1Password 5 on your Mac (unlock with your master password if prompted)
- Go to File > Restore
- In the Backup preferences, click the Find Backup button
- Select the .1p4_zip file you saved from your iOS device (and click Add Backup)
- Choose the backup file you just added and click the Restore button
3. interestingly I have 2 directories in ~/Library/Application Support/. They are "1Password" and "1Password 4", and they both contain a subdirectory Backups, the one under "1Password 4" contains backups with extension .1p4_zip and the one under "1Password" files with extension .agilekeychain_zip.
Sorry for any confusion about that! The "1Password" folder is for 1Password 3, and the "1Password 4" folder is for 1Password 5 (version 5 uses the same folder as version 4, which is why the number of the folder doesn't match the version of the app).
7. The sync between iOS and OS X does not work, I am getting a sync problem with Error Domain = NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code 60 "Operation timed out" (I graded up from 5.4 to 5.4.1 yesterday).
That error message usually means the connection is being blocked by the OS X firewall. You can try temporarily disabling that to see if Wi-Fi sync will work:
- Open the System Preferences app on your Mac
- Select Security & Privacy
- Choose Firewall
- If the Firewall is On, try turning it off (you may need to unlock the settings by clicking the padlock icon at the bottom)
Does this help? Let us know how it all goes and if you run into any problems. Thanks!

Two of the described methods have been working quite well (restoring the file from the iOS device file and restoring the old backup 1Password.agilekeychain.zip. Thank you very much for your help, because going back to an older release from my time machine backup would not have been a goog idea). The direct wifi-sync does not work for me because I am getting a 7027 error. Your support forum describes how to handle that, I do not expect any problem there.
Thank you again!

That's great news, @klauslindner! I'm glad you were able to restore your data from those backup files.
So it sounds like the remaining issue is that you're getting the 7027 error when trying to use Wi-Fi sync. As Stephen originally mentioned, you should be able to solve that by following the steps here: Wi-Fi Sync error 7027: Attempted to sync with a different vault than originally configured (iOS)
If you have any trouble with those steps, please let us know what happens and we'll continue from there. Thanks! :)
