using 1password 4.4.2, followed the steps. when i reenable dropbox sync the file still has old name. what do i need to do? might be better if there was an option to automatically do the converssion.

I'm assuming that we're talking about converting to .opvault format, correct? At this time, we're recommending that you upgrade to 1Password 5 to take advantage of the .opvault data format. The good news is that 1Password 5 is a free upgrade for all owners of 1Password 4! You'll see the 1Password 5 update available as long as your operating system is OS X 10.11.

thanks for writing back to us. I'm sorry that you're stuck on an old version of OS X. New versions of OS X include important security updates that are not retroactively applied to old versions. For your security, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to the OS X 10.11 at your earliest convenience.
In your present situation, your only option is to continue using 1Password 4 and the .agilekeychain data format for syncing. The .agilekeychain format is secure and is used by many of us on the AgileBits team (including myself!) who choose to sync our data with Dropbox. When you are able to upgrade OS X and 1Password, you will be able to easily migrate to the .opvault format for syncing your 1Password data.
