What about multiple devices when migrating from keychain to OPVault?

The category is Mac, but this applies to iOS devices, too!

So, suppose I want to migrate to OPVault from agilekeychain. A knowledgebase article that describes how to do this exists, but doesn't mention what happens if you have multiple machines syncing the same database (I have a laptop, desktop, ipad, and iphone). Maybe the answer is "It all just works automajickly after you delete and recreate the database" but I'd feel better if the article actually said this. Especially when the "stop Dropbox syncing" dialog has big red letters warning that Things Could Go Pear-Shaped. And yes, I've made a backup, but I'd still feel better to get the Official Word from agilebits.

    Hi @jfnixon,

I certainly don't blame you at all for waiting an official response before switching things up. We're working on adding some meat to that knowledgebase article to make it even more clear for users such as yourself who have multiple devices.

But in the meantime, I'll walk you through the process here:

    • The first step of any troubleshooting process is to run a shiny new backup (as you've already done - good job!)
    • Next, we'll disable sync on all your devices. On the Macs, select the option to remove the data from Dropbox (don't worry, your data is stored locally as well.)
    • After sync has been disabled, delete any remaining .agilekeychain files in Dropbox.
    • Now fully quit 1Password using the ⌘⌃Q ( Command-Control-Q ) on your Macs.
    • Run the Terminal command listed in the support article for your appropriate version of 1Password. Run this command on each of your Macs. (This will ensure that each Mac defaults to .opvault when syncing vaults.)
    • On one Mac, open 1Password and set up sync for each of your vaults.
    • Once Dropbox has fully synced, you can set up sync on your other Macs and iOS devices.

I hope this helps, but if you have any other questions or hit any snags in the process, please let me know - we're here to help!
