VoiceOver lags in 5.4

I'm running 1Password 5.4, and I'm experiencing major lag with VoiceOver in the main app. It's especially noticeable when performing editing functions, such as copying passwords to paste into forms or updating existing logins. I just thought the issue should be brought to the attention of the development people.

  • Hey @Andromache! Sorry for the late reply here. We were trying to reproduce this issue on our end and simply haven't been able to. Could you see if restarting your computer fixes it? I noticed you also reported being on OS X 10.11.1 beta. Have you updated to the stable build, and has that improved things? Let us know! :)

    Hi,

I just installed the stable 10.11.1. I didn't know it had come out. In the process, I restarted my computer. The problem seems to be gone now. Sorry about the false alarm. :|

Edit: There is a strange issue with VO where if you edit a login and focus the password field, VO doesn't read character by character. It's supposed to read like that if you arrow left and right over the entry fields. Instead, I hear the entire password every time I hit the Left or Right arrow keys. I'm sure that shouldn't happen. Or at least, I'd prefer it didn't. For comparison, you can Shift-Tab to the username field and try arrowing left and right. You get single characters and can edit easily.

No worries! I'm glad to hear that updating OS X (or was it the reboot? we may never know!) resolved the issue. Regarding the character-by-character issue, was it behaving differently with password fields for you previously?

    Hi,

Unfortunately, I really don't know. I never consciously paid attention. I want to say this is a new issue, but I can't be sure.

Interestingly, on iOS, when editing a login, it works correctly. I can read character by character, and when passwords are hidden, they stay hidden even when editing. In the Mac version, I can have passwords set to be hidden and when I edit, the characters are actually announced. So the behavior is different for each version of VO.

It's conceivable that restarting fixed the issue. I tend to have my Mac sleep rather than restarting, so I can go for weeks sometimes without having rebooted. Kind of suspicious that the beta wouldn't work right with 1Password when it's been stable with every other program I regularly use. But I guess it doesn't really matter now, since the problem's gone. :)

  • @Andromache I'm very glad to hear restarting fixed your VoiceOver lagging issue.

We actually had a report about the character reading issue a few days back and I was able to reproduce it as well. We're looking into a fix for this. Thanks for mentioning it! We really appreciate that. :) It's also good to know that it was still an issue on the OS X 10.10.1 beta, because we had only tested it on the 10.10 stable.

Again, if you have any other questions, we're here to help out. :glasses: Have a wonderful weekend!
