Does WiFi Sync to an iOS device use OPVault?
I read "When a leak is not a leak" and the OPVault format is news to me. I have a Mac running El Capitan, the latest version of 1Password (5.4.1), and an iPhone running iOS 9.1 and the latest version of 1Password for iOS (6.something). I use WiFi sync to sync two vaults between my devices. I followed the instructions including the Terminal command to force 1Password to use OPVault by default, but I'm unable to determine if this configuration results in an OPVault in both places.
(I'm not concerned about metadata in this case because I have FileVault and no one touches my devices, but browser compromises are a possibility and I'm also mostly just curious.)
1Password Version: 5.4.1
Extension Version: 4.5.0b2
OS Version: 10.11.1
Sync Type: WiFi

The answer to your question is yes, wifi sync does use OPVault—see this AgileBits post.
