So here is my problem.
1. I register at new website. I enter in my username
2. I click on "password generator" and hit "fill"
3. then I look in 1password and it created the login info without the username.
4. I have to manually open 1password
5. go to new login entry
6. click "convert to login"
7. click on "username" and manually enter this info in myself. it's painful and it happens all the time.
8. if I register with username and create my own password and not use 1password for this then 1password captures username/password correctly in the newly created login.

does this make sense? when 1password generates a password it then saves that, but neglects to save my username.

@jakatak: It's really much easier, rather than converting Password items (which aren't meant to be used, only as a failsafe in case you forget to save the Login item) into Login items, to save a Login item for the site in the first place. Then there's no need to do the extra work! Password items are only supposed to be composed of a password after all. ;)

Now, if you're encountering a specific site where 1Password simply isn't able find the username on the page, be sure to let us know the URL so we can try to improve this in a future version. Cheers! :)
