License expired message after formatting laptop and installing 1Password

I have just formatted my mac and installed El Capitan now my 1Password 3 license is saying it is expired:

The license key you entered is for an older version of 1Password. Please upgrade your license to receive a new key.

I have tried "I have lost my license" and the license key in the email is also not working.

@radox1: Can you tell me which version of 1Password you're trying to use the key with? It sounds like you may simply be trying to use the old key with a newer version.

1Password 4/5 is a paid upgrade from 1Password 3, but you can get a discount on it through the AgileBits Store using your existing license key.

Alternatively, you can continue using 1Password 3 (though it wasn't designed for El Capitan or current browsers, and will not be receiving updates). You can download it from our site. I hope this helps! :)
