The error message should indicate the actual path of the duplicate copy. Try removing your backup drive, rebooting and then re-launching 1P. Does that work?

This is an OS X, rather than a 1P, problem. The solution is to:

    • delete from your backup drive any copy of the 1Password app (only the app file); and
    • exclude the 1Password app file from future backups (because, of course, you can always re-download it if you need it).

None of what I have suggested with affect your 1P data...but don't use any app cleaner tool when deleting the app file (because it will encourage you to delete other files you need to keep).

    Hi @schnayer,

Please let me know if Stephen's post has helped. If you're still having trouble after rebooting and removing any duplicate copies of 1Password, please let us know and we'll investigate further. :)

That has solved the problem. I use Super Duper to make a backup clone from my mac. Don't know if there is a way to exclude a file. So far it doesn't seem you can. At least I know what the problem is and how to solve it. Thanks.

I've read that SuperDuper does have a function to allow you to exclude certain files from its backups. But I guess it isn't obvious how to do it. I use Carbon Copy Cloner, and it was relatively straightforward to exclude the 1Password application from my daily backups.

You may want to sift through the SuperDuper docs to find how to do this. It saves having to remember to delete the backed up application.

Carbon Copy Cloner will also allow you to dismount the backup drive after the backup is complete. Perhaps that's another option for you with your solution.

The manual does give the information. The examples it gives are for excluding a folder from a backup, but a file should work the same way (and presumably an application package also. You could check with the developer who is very helpful.

Indeed, while I love SuperDuper! and think it's awesome in so many other ways, when it comes to customizability, it isn't particularly user-friendly.
