I downloaded a free trial version of 1Password but do not know how to find my license.

I downloaded a free trial version of 1Password from the Agilebits site, but the application appears to need a license to unlock its features. How do I proceed?

It should work without any restrictions for thirty days. If you want to buy there is a purchasing page on the web site.

Or you can buy from the Mac App Store. If you want iCloud sync you MUST buy from the App Store. If you want upgrade pricing when there is a paid upgrade you MUST buy direct. Both these are Apple's restrictions.

The direct version allows Dropbox sync (and other sync methods) which is technically at least as good as iCloud.

    Hi @RancherRick,

Please let me know if you have any questions after reading Danco's reply. He's correct, you're welcome to use 1Password for free, with full access to all features for 30 days. After that, it will require a license.

You can purchase either from the Mac App Store, or directly from the AgileBits Store.

I understand the trial period. But I'm not able to do is access any functions on the one password using my MacBook. The functions in the pulldown menus appear to be grade out. I assume it's because it needs some type of license input. So currently the trial period is useless to me. How do I get the functionality to work for me during the trial period?

During the trial period 1Password is fully functional so the fact menu items are greyed out has nothing to do with the fact you're running the trial version. Have you actually started the set up procedure as referred to in this excerpt from the user guide?

One guess I have is that you missed the "Awesome. Let's get stated" button bottom right of the first Welcome screen. It's easy to miss.

Thank you, Stephen. I just got it to work! Now I am having difficulty getting 1Password to fill in passwords for me. It does not work on MapMyRun or RoadID sites.

Does this this excerpt from the user guide help at all?

    Using a saved Login

If not, please give the exact URLs you are using (unless the contain anything confidential) and maybe someone can test them for you.

Thank you for the link. I have reviewed the page the link took me to, but I am running into problems.

I tried two ways. One was to go the 1password icon on the top bar and use the pulldown menu for each website. This takes me to the web site but does not log me in. The other way I tried was to go to each website myself, put in my username, put the cursor in the password box, and then go to the 1password icon on the top bar and use the pulldown menu and select the website.

Ok, when I install the Chrome extension, and go thru the same process as above (but clicking on the 1password icon on the Chrom menu bar), it works to log me in to the Road ID site. So, I guess I am "go to go" now. I still do not understand why clicking on the 1password logo on the top Mac menu bar does not work/

  • Hey @RancherRick,

Sorry for the confusion here. You need to have the browser extension installed to fill fields. The small 1Password icon in the top right of the screen is for quickly accessing things, but it does not fill fields on its own. That's what our extensions are for. :) You can use 1Password Mini in the menu bar for quickly accessing passwords without opening the full app and for entering them in other apps that aren't browsers. Hope that helps clear things up!

It does clear things up. Thank you for that. For some reason getting the one password to work for me has been quite confusing. I wanted to be sure that it would work well before I would purchase it. Now that I know it works for one website I will use it for others so I can keep testing it thank you for your support

  • @RancherRick Please do continue testing things. Wade into the waters and enjoy the temperature. :) If you do have any other questions, we're here to help out. Don't be shy. Have an awesome weekend!
