Archiving Logins and Security Licenses

As a long-time user of 1Password I have now accumulated quite a number of logins and software licenses which I would like to keep rather than send them to the trash. Is there any way I can create an archive or some other suitable folder that I can move any excess Security License files to, and the same applies to Logins?

With thanks, Ron

I've created a second vault named Archive for just this purpose. You can move those old records there, and they will be available if you want them, but they won't bother you if you don't. More about multiple vaults can be found in the User Guide, on this page You can sync this secondary vault to your other devices, if you set up the option to do so in the 1Password preferences, and if you are using Dropbox for your sync solution. iCloud does not sync secondary vaults.

Others have suggested using the option to Never display in browser for such records, thus keeping them out of sight when you are filling credentials, but also keeping them in the Primary vault. You find that option in nay record when you are in edit mode, in a field named display. That option isn't as much to my liking as the secondary vault, but that's my preference.

  • Hey @ronmat!

As hawkmoth mentioned, creating an additional vault for this very purpose may be a great solution for you. To create a new vault, open 1Password and click the File menu. Select New Vault and fill in the name, Master Password, and hint for your new vault. Once you have a new vault, you can move items to it from your Primary vault by switching to that one, right-clicking the item, selecting Share, the vault name, and Move.

    Hope that helps! :)

Many thanks, the suggestion of a new Vault has fixed my problem beautifully. Strangely enough, I thought this may be the use of a new Vault but was not quite sure. However, that has now been fixed and I have learned something new.

@ronmat: The confusing thing is that a new vault can be whatever you want it to be. Certainly useful not only for separating work and personal, but also archiving as well. Cheers! :)
