Attachments are lost - how can I recover them?

Hello: I have 1PW 5.4.1/Mac and the latest on iOS. This problem has been going on for several versions - at least 4.x. I put the email/receipt for licenses in the attachments field. I click on it on Mac and it says "The File _______ could not be opened because it is empty." Trying to open it on iOS ends up in an endless loop. How can I fix this?

@levin2: Are you able to view the attachments on any devices? You may be able to restore from a backup, if the data was intact previously, but before we do anything let's make sure we have a clear understanding of the situation. Is it all attachments, or just certain ones? Please let me know what you find!

@levin2: On your Mac, make a fresh backup of your data, and then try restoring from an older backup to see if the attachments are present there. That will give us some sense of the timeline, and then we can work on getting those backed up attachments into your current data — likely by simply exporting them, restoring to the most recent backup, and then adding the attachments.
