I have looked into 1Password, installed it, and sort of tried it, but have decided to stick with my other password managers. I want to uninstall 1Password. But I have forgotten my password. How can I uninstall it (and all pieces) without my password?

1Password Version: the latest version
Extension Version: the latest version
OS Version: Mac OS X
Sync Type: None

    @kwilzz

To uninstall all you would need to do is drag the app to the trash. Now, if you truly want to remove the preference files you can do so... Its not required, but entirely up to you.

As to the password you have forgotten, the only password you need is your admin password for the uninstall. The same one you log into your computer with. You do not need your Master Password to uninstall 1Password. * It would however be needed, if you had data inside 1Password and you wished to retrieve it, prior to the removal.

If its indeed the 1Password Master Password you have forgotten, I am afraid there is nothing anyone can do to help. Your password is only known to you.

If you wish to start clean, aka remove all the pieces, then this document should help you out. https://support.1password.com/uninstall-1password/mac.html The instructions cover both versions of 1Password. The website version and the Mac App Store version.

I would however encourage you to simply leave the app in place and come back and visit it, in a few days, weeks. Often times putting something aside for a brief period of time helps solve issues. If you did have an issue and thats what has prompted you to remove 1Password, many folks here are listening and ready to help. No pressure, just a friendly reminder, folks are always here and willing to help.

    • A word of caution once the uninstall process is completed and if you remove the sync data. There will be no way to get back any information you placed in 1Password.

    Thanks so much.
Just to address a couple of points:
    1. Hmm, I guess that's where I was confused. Somehow I had the idea I had to log in to 1Password and somehow turn it off to get it to go away.
    2. Yes, it is the master password I have forgotten, but this means nothing because I had no data in there and just am uninstalling.
    3. Thanks for the uninstall instructions document. I'll go through it and try to apply, if dragging the app to the trash doesn't work just right.
    4. My issue with 1Password: I could not for the life of me find out a clear and simple description, readily available, of how much I'm going to have to pay to get the most out of 1Password. I couldn't find a feature comparison for the different pricing tiers, if there are any. I couldn't find two places that agreed with each other on how much it costs. I saw a mention somewhere that it's now all free, but that can't be right because there are still several places where I can buy it, but each of those places has different prices for... some level of 1Password--I couldn't tell what the levels were and what they included. After I downloaded 1Password, by chance I was going through the preferences and buried in there was the note that I had only 30 days to try it out, after which it would revert to... something. It didn't give me a description of what I have now, nor did it describe what it was reverting to. Why isn't 1Password up front about how much it costs and what we will get if we pay such and so?
    5. I appreciate very much the help and willingness of the people on the forums. I truly hope the company cherishes you and gives you perks for your hard work you're doing for them.

    Thanks again.

    1. No, its local to your device. It is not cloud based and needs no turning off. The only thing you may wish to disable is cloud syncing. Cloud syncing is separate and only applies if you enabled it.
    2. Your covered, sounds like!
    3. Sounds like you have a plan!
    4. Here are some examples on how licensing works https://agilebits.com/store/licenses The free version would be referring to some of the mobile apps. They have gone to the freemium model. Basically its free for a specific set of features. If you want more advanced features a In App Purchase is required to unlock them. Its a one time purchase, usually unless a major upgrade is released. For example usually x.1 and x.2 releases (updates) are free. Then 5.x and 6.x releases are paid upgrades. That really depends on the internal items which I am not privy to. But speaking from a personal standpoint. The upgrade cycle has always been something I found value in. I cant recall a single instance since version 2 where I couldn't justify a upgrade.
The desktop apps still require a purchase as they are full featured. The trial is unlimited till after the 30 days. During the trial period everything works. After the trial, the limitations (w/ no license purchase) are listed here by a member of the staff. https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/136187/#Comment_136187 I am sure the staff would love to hear some feedback about what pages may have confused you.
    5. I do this as a labor of love. I get a lot of satisfaction in helping others. Its a great place with a wonderful set of staff, users and guests here in the forums. I came here when I switched to a Mac from Windows. If I recall correctly its over 8 years now. Its been super fun and they let me try to break the betas, which is fun in itself. :chuffed:

Thank you for the kind words.

*Please note, the staff will respond to this topic as well. They answer them in the order received, so it could be soon, when one of them replies. As I said, feel free to ask question and one of us will try to answer till the staff stop in.

    Cheers,

Hey @kwilzz! I'm glad to see that you and thightower had such a great experience and he was able to help you uninstall 1Password properly. It looks like he also covered the experience you've had with 1Password, but I wanted to chime in as well. :)

I could not for the life of me find out a clear and simple description, readily available, of how much I'm going to have to pay to get the most out of 1Password.

On Mac and Windows, we offer a 30-day trial for the app so you can get to know things and figure out whether you'd like to use it. From there, it's a one-time purchase. As thightower mentioned, we have had some paid upgrades in the past as well. 1Password is currently on sale across all platforms as well!

I couldn't find a feature comparison for the different pricing tiers, if there are any.

There are no separate tiers of the Mac and Windows apps. On Android and iOS, things are a bit different: The free version of the app covers the basic features, but there's also a Pro in-app purchase if you'd like to use multiple vaults, the Apple Watch app, categories, and other features.

I couldn't find two places that agreed with each other on how much it costs. I saw a mention somewhere that it's now all free, but that can't be right because there are still several places where I can buy it, but each of those places has different prices for... some level of 1Password--I couldn't tell what the levels were and what they included.

Sorry to hear that. Could you share what webpages you were confused about, as well as the one that said it was "now all free"? This may have simply been a mixup of the iOS and Mac apps, but we'd love some feedback if we missed something.

We try to be as upfront as we can about the cost of things. The 1Password product page on our website has a Download Free Trial button and purchase options below it. Our downloads page has Buy Now options beside the Download button of the 1Password apps for Mac and Windows as well as Get it on the App Store and Get it on Google Play buttons for the mobile apps. We definitely don't want to hide the cost of things. Where did you originally download the app? Feel free to suggest some improvements to that page for the sake of clarity. :)

I'm sorry to hear you've decided to continue using another password manager, but if it works best from you we definitely don't want to keep you from it. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about using 1Password, and if you want to take things for a spin again. If there's something you'd like to see in the app that's available in the password manager you're currently using daily, we'd love to hear about it as well.

Hope that answers everything. Have a wonderful weekend!

@penderworth and @thightower Thank you for your further comments.
I don't remember where I got 1Password and I can't think why I didn't just go to the AgileBits store to find out how much it was.
But then again, I just now went to the AgileBits store... I would like to request a nice page called Features or something that lays it all out on one page: What do we get with what--mac, windows, iOS, android, whether we can use the iOs/android apps by themselves without the mac/windows versions, the diff between the free versions and the pro version, etc. I appreciate that you linked me to a place in the knowledgebase that gave some of this info, but I, as a clueless (and dare I say, lazy) consumer, shouldn't have to search the knowledgebase for features. If I'm going to pay for something, I want to know what I'm buying and that should be right out front.
Again, I appreciate the forums and the people in there. This has been the quickest and most informative set of forum replies I've received on any topic. Thanks again.

@kwilzz: Thanks for the feedback! We're always looking at different ways we can improve our site, and a fresh set of eyes never hurts. ;)

That said, while you may think of yourself as being 'clueless' or 'lazy' in this case, in fact it sounds like you're pretty savvy. In all honestly, most people simply aren't looking for that level of detail regarding features that may not even make sense to someone until they've actually used 1Password (which is why we offer the free trial); they're looking for a solution to help them be more secure online. We'll continue to look at ways we can make things clearer (for example, much of that documentation didn't exist not so long ago!)

Thank you so much for the kind words! I've shared this with the rest of the team. We certainly strive to deserve you and the rest of our awesome customers. We don't always get it right, but it means a lot to hear that kind of validation that we're at least on the right track.

Thanks so much for your support. We couldn't do what we do without it. We're here for you if you need us! :chuffed:
