iCloud sync with 1Password from the AgileBits website

I hope I haven't read right in the web page https://support.1password.com/icloud-requires-mac-app-store/

Is that right that I have to re-purchase 1Password in the Apple Store to be able to sync on iCloud my 1Password library created with my 1Password from the AgileBits website years ago (you know, I'm one of those who trusted in you years ago and bought your product before Apple got their hands on you...)?

As of today, I would have given you a 100% satisfaction. Well, if the answer to my question above is "yes", I'm not sure this 100% would survive it?!

1Password Version: 5.4.1
Extension Version: 4.4.3
OS Version: OS X 10.11.1

    Hey @JeanDENOEL,

You are reading that knowledge base article correctly, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Did you just purchase the app from us? If it was within the past 30 days, we would be happy to refund you. I searched our system for the email address you used to sign up on these forums and wasn't able to find anything. Did you use a different one? If so, please email us at support+forums@agilebits.com with a link to this forum thread and the email address you used. Also post back here to let us know you've sent that email and include the BitBot number so we can connect the dots! :)

  • @JeanDENOEL I wasn't able to find you in our system with the email you used to sign up here on the forums. Could you post the BitBot number you received as a confirmation? That'll help us get things connected.

Well, I've been in touch with Steve.
He explained me things and now I know that selling apps by way of the AppStore has many constraints. So, probably, the iCloud stuff is not AgileBits' choice.
So, I want to correct my "percentage of satisfaction" mention in my first post. This piece of software is great and even with these burdens, I coudn't do without it anymore. So, let's say ... 99% satisfaction.
    Thank you guys, great job!

@JeanDENOEL: That's very kind of you. Thank you!

Indeed, since iCloud and the App Store belong to Apple, it's their prerogative to do what they think is best for their platform and business. They've put a lot of work into both, and I think it's safe to say that as Mac and iOS users we've benefited from many of their decisions, even if it can be frustrating at times when what we want to do (either as users or developers) conflicts.

Certainly it can be a double-edged sword, so I don't blame you in the least for being frustrated that 1Password wasn't working the way you wanted it to. And at that point none of this matters: frustration is frustration! So I hope that one day we'll see iCloud available in more places overall, including other versions of 1Password. I think that Apple is moving in that direction, and if so we'll be happy to follow! :chuffed:

And besides, I kind of like 99%. It leaves room for improvement. ;)
